Circumcision

When we define circumcision, it is the surgical removal of the skin covering the tip of the penis. This is a fairly common procedure for newborn baby boys in certain parts of the world, especially with the Jewish community. I mention God’s people, the Jews, because during the times of the old covenant it was said that the woman who bore the male child was unclean until the child is circumcised. And because the laws of the old covenant minus sacrificial offerings are still kept with the Jews, that is why this law of circumcision is still around also. Speaking of this law, it is written, “and the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean. And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.” (Leviticus 12:1-3)

In the new covenant, things are much different now than in the past. It is no longer a requirement for male children to be circumcised like in the past. The woman and male child are not unclean if they are not circumcised. Therefore, for us to judge others who are for or against circumcision is not something Christians should do. This is because keeping God’s commandments is more important. It is written, “is any man called being circumcised? let him not become uncircumcised. Is any called in uncircumcision? let him not be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God. Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called.” (1 Corinthians 7:18-20) Therefore, we abide in Christ, that when we hear His voice we will also obey. The Lord is the one who calls us into different callings, so it is important to come unto Him and let Him lead us. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will lead me and all other Christians around the world. My desire is to know You and Your will for me more than ever before. Help me to live this life in Your good standing. My flesh may want to be fulfilled in different areas, but if it is not pleasing in Your sight, then remove those desires. Cleanse me of all my sins and awaken my soul in Your holiness and righteousness. Your commandments are holy and my desire is to keep them. If I am living my own life, then rebuke me, that I might change my ways immediately. I know that broad is the path that leads to destruction, but narrow in the way that leads to eternal life in heaven. Help me to never give into things that will take me off course and onto a path that will only lead to destruction. Truly, there are many false teachers out there that are leading countless numbers of people astray. Thankfully, You are in my life. I love You, Lord. Amen.
