The Bible is clear that God is holy and those that follow after God should be holy also. We find these verses in Leviticus 19, where God spoke unto Moses, and also in 1 Peter 1, where Peter is addressing the church. 1“And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.” (Leviticus 19:1,2) This is very important in our walk with Christ, for how can we say we believe in Jesus and not do His will also. However, I do not see many people who call themselves desiring to be holy or have God’s purity in their lives. Instead, they often are much like the rest of the world in what they say and their actions. This is sad, since people have missed the mark of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. Do people not understand that Peter said, 2“wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:13-16) We once were like everyone else in our ignorance of knowing God, but now we are fashioned unto God and His likeness on earth. Our minds are sober, so that we can think clearly and be led by the Holy Spirit and not our own desires. Seeking Jesus often in prayer and reading His Word daily, helps us become holy. We even become pure as God is pure.
Peter also taught, 2“that the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.” (1 Peter 1:7-9) 2“Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” (1 Peter 1:21-25) Wow! This is the life of a real Christian. Our faith is tried because of higher standards with God, but we know that this will only make us stronger in the faith. Even through Christ in us, we are purified, having been born again in baptism. Our old life is no more and we are raised up into newness of life. Even the Holy Spirit abides with us now. Now we love one another and obey God’s truth no matter what. Some people may not desire to have God’s holiness in their lives, but we do since we love Jesus.
Let us pray:
Lord God, I give You praise and honor. I love Your ways and not the worlds. Your ways are holy and I need more holiness in my life. I am sick and tired of the flesh trying to lead me into sin, where all I want is to be in Your light. May the lusts therein have no more power over me. I know that I will never stop being tempted by the devil, but I pray that he will not have any more control over my life. It is not worth having worldly things in my life or having temporary pleasure because of sin. Therefore, I want You to dispel the darkness and lead me in Your light. Lead me in all things righteous and holy. Keep me in Your love. I will obey You, my king. Build me up with Your armor. Help me to know what is right and what is wrong, that I might always choose Your will above all things. My heart’s desire is to be with You in heaven for all eternity. So take me by the hand and lead me on Your holy and righteous path, even until the end of my days. I believe in You. I trust in You. I love You with all my soul, my mind, my might, and my strength. Amen.
