The Bible does contain certain mysteries that you will only find out by reading the entire Bible and by reading it with the Holy Spirit. One such mystery is who are the sons of God in Genesis 6. I am sure you have read these verses before, but do you know what they mean? Or ever wondered what it all meant? Well, if you have been a little confused at what it means, then you are for a treat, for we have clarity in the New Testament. There is no need to wonder what things mean in the Bible, for there is always clarification on its meaning. Even these hard passages of scripture are made easier for us to understand in the book of Jude and 2 Peter 2. So let us get to the context of what happened in Genesis 6. It reads, 1“and it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heat was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.” (Genesis 6:1-6) So we know that the sons of God had sex with different women on earth, which gave birth to giants, who were mighty men. Of which God was not pleased with any of this. What happened was very wicked to the point of doubting his own creation . Then we know that 1“Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord,” (Genesis 6:8) and future generations of people were spared.
So who are these sons of God that bore giants upon the earth? To answer this question, we will look at the book of 2 Peter 2 and then Jude. 2 Peter 2 reads, 2“for if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.” (2 Peter 2:4,5) Wow, isn’t this so very interesting? There were angels that sinned during the time of the old world, which was before the flood. And if you want to know what the sin of these angels were, Jude recorded this. He said, 3“and the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.” (Jude 1:6-8) So there were certain angels who left their first estate, which was heaven, to come down to earth and have sex with women. Much like Sodom and Gomorrha there sin is compared to their fornication with women, who were of strange flesh compared to them. Therefore, they are in chains, awaiting judgement. So we learn that these sons of God were really fallen angels. You may not learn this in church, but this is true nonetheless. I mentioned just two references in the New Testament that confirms what I said, but there are more examples as well that confirm my case. As for you, keep reading all of the Bible so that God’s mysteries will also unfold upon you.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people’s eyes and ears will be opened to what the Bible says as they read. That they will not stop reading after certain chapters but read all of Your Word. This way they can get the context of what is being said. So many mysteries are given to us just by continuing to read certain books and chapters all throughout the Bible. I love it when I’ve read verses earlier on in Your Word and then see other parts of it give it more clarity and insight. These are the times that make it worth every minute of reading in different books before, just to see the answer I was waiting for to be addressed in another book and chapter later on. This is so awesome God. Therefore, it is so important that people continue reading the Bible. Then will they come to know the truth which comes from You, God, and not false teachings that come from men. Even if people do start preaching a false gospel or teachings of men, then we will know that these people are false teachers, preachers, and even pastors, because of what they are saying. I love it when You speak the truth as I read. This really helps me to know what is being taught in church is true, so that I am not just being fed a pack of lies. I would never want to be led to and fro with every wind of doctrine and not know that I am being led astray. This would be absolutely terrible, for I would lose out in knowing You and having Your Word as my guide. Lord, I know that every teaching from Your word is true. I just hope and pray that people can know the context of what is being said so that fewer people will take it out of context. Surely, Your words are true and faithful. They are pure in every way. I delight in just the fact of being able to read what has been written. I love You Lord. The Bible is true and will declare what You have said through prophets and teachers to all the world that will listen. I love You. Amen.
