How To Seek God First In Our Lives

Have you ever wondered why your thoughts are evil sometimes? How about what you say to people? And how about what you do each day? It is true that what you do with your life each day is also the person you become. So if you are seeking to do God’s will in your life, while Jesus is front and center, then the way you think, say to people, and act will also be an example of God’s love towards others. Otherwise, what you take in each day will be evil. Jesus said, 1“but seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” (Matthew 6:33,34) He also said, 1“lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:19-24) I hope you understand the Lord’s lesson for us here. What we are doing is either making us more inline with God or the devil. If God’s treasure is your joy, then you are saved. However, if the things of this world are you joy, then you must repent before it is too late.

What is important in life, in order to be on the right path, is that we change our environment that we are in. This is how we can stop willfully sinning. So how do we change our environment? We do this by replacing things in our lives, in order to be doing God’s will and not our own. There are certain things we can do in order to do this. #1. We can stop watching certain shows on TV. Same goes for movies. If the show or movie does not draw you to God, but leads you to have impure thoughts, then it is of the devil. You need to stop watching such things. If it is about killing in any way, then you can know that it is of the devil and you should not watch those things. Instead of this, you should be looking at Christian Ministries to watch. Now, here on Daily Christian Devotionals there are a many ministries for you to watch for Free, of which will fill your mind up with things of God. This is a very good thing to do and is an awesome replacement to the things that the world is trying to fill our minds with. Another thing we can do is replace what we listen to. If we continue to listen to Pop, Hip-Hop, Rock, Rap, and other genres like this, then we are not drawing closer to God. We are only doing as the world wants us to live, but not God. Therefore, we need to change our music choices with Classical, Harp, Piano, Christian and other alike genres. This type of music is good for the soul. And if you visited the music page on this site, then you would know that there is a good variety of good Christian music to listen to for Free. Now sometimes people can start off as a Christian artist and then change their ways later. So if you see any artists on my site that are no longer for God, then let me know and I’ll remove their page immediately. Same goes with ministries.

Along with changing our music choices, we should examine how much time we spend playing video games. And this is not just the younger generation who are into this, but the older generation as well. Speaking of games, It is not just video game consoles anymore that I am speaking on, but people who spend a lot of their time playing games on their phones and tablets. Sure, PC Gaming and Video game consoles are also a culprit of course, which includes the Xbox, Play Station, Switch, and more. But what is this taking you away from? God, of course. It is surely not uplifting you but dragging you down. There is a big difference between walking in the ways of the Lord, then walking in the ways of the world. So what you need to do is replace your bad habits with things of God. So instead of playing these video games, be involved with a church ministry. This means searching out a Bible study group or small group to attend, or go out on the streets with evangelists. Even your church could use your help during the week, not just on the weekend. These are just a few examples. And of course you won’t find time for these things if you are spending all your time playing video games on your phone or other devices. The same goes for our time on the computer. If you spend all your time surfing the web, while trying to find the best deals, this is only covetousness, which is vanity also. And searching out porn is even worse, for it is adultery in God’s eyes. Doing this is corrupting yourself and taking your most precious time away from reading the Bible, praying, and going out and doing God’s will. Anything that is taking yourself away from God is not good. What you should be doing is being engaged with God daily and not doing what your flesh desires.

Reading devotionals is also very important. And if you have been following this site for a short time you would know that there are plenty of messages to find and read with your family. You can go to the archives section or search the site for whatever devotion you are looking for. It is good to learn on your own and what your pastor is teaching, but it is good check what you learn in the bible as well. Some pastors don’t want to teach on all the Bible, but one thing you will know for sure of in these messages is that all the Bible is used. Even the most difficult subjects are taught on like pornography, homosexuality and abortion, which are cause for contention in the world. Since God speaks out on such things, they are taught on. So to recap, we shouldn’t spend as much time on our TV, playing video games, and on our computer. We should also change what we listen to and watch. By doing this, we are replacing things for God. We are then able to find more time with God in His Word, prayer, doing different ministries, and watching uplifting things on TV, or Christian Ministries. You can also find time to evangelize and spend more time with your family. These things will come as you start seeking the Lord first in your life. As I like telling my kids everyday is to seek first the kingdom of God. Everything they choose to watch or play, they need to first be seeking God. So if there is anything that they are watching or playing that is against God’s will, I let them know right away, and they turn it off. This is exactly how you need to react. Start cutting things out of your lives, so that the Holy Spirit can take over and help you do things that you would not be able to do otherwise. This is God’s handiwork in your life. He wants to do amazing things through you. So start living a life that is pleasing for Him. God bless you, my friends.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I am grateful for this new life. Thank You for rescuing me and leading me out of a life of sin. I may have thought that life was good back before I was saved, but I was so wrong. All the TV shows, movies, videos games, and things I accumulated never led me to find joy that lasted. They always got old and I needed something else to replace those things. Even the pleasure I received in the moment in pornography was nothing compared to all the guilt and shame I felt afterwards. Surely, a life of heartache and regret is not worth temporary fulfillment in the lusts of the flesh. Therefore, my marriage suffered because of these evil choices. So thank You, Lord, for healing my soul and delivering me out of all the bondage I was in. I needed a surgeon to go in and cut of out my heart all the evil and wicked things that I had added to it and my mind over the years and You did all of this. The day I gave You my life in prayer is the day that my life was never the same again. Instead of desiring to be fulfilled in my lusts and covetousness in earthly treasures, I am now fulfilled with the things You can do in my life. Even loving others brings me so much joy. TV is a waste of time now, for being engaged in the Bible is more important to me. And since I have cut out the TV time, I have so much more time to work in Your kingdom. You’ve also given me new desires that include better music choices, ministries to watch, and boldness to evangelize on the streets. I am made whole by Your blood, and the things of this world no longer bring me joy like You do. Thank you for washing me and cleansing me from within, that I may become a witness for You and not just a believer on paper. I love You, Lord. There is nothing else I’d rather put my faith in, but You. Amen.

Matthew 6
Matthew 6 (KJV)
Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
