When it comes to the Sabbath day, the Jews have continued to rest on it until this day. They start on Friday at sunset to nightfall on Saturday. Hence the reason why people say Sabbath is on Saturday. They honor God by obeying the fourth commandment, which reads, “remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.” (Exodus 20:8-11) Many Christians also honor God and obey the Sabbath day today, including myself. I believe like many others that these ten commandments are still vital for our lives. And for other people to say I am wrong and to judge me on this matter, they will have to give an account to God one day for this, unless they repent or their wrongful judging.
Speaking of resting on the Sabbath day, we continue to learn more and more of its importance as we keep reading in Exodus. It is written, “six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest: in earing time and in harvest thou shalt rest.” (Exodus 34:21) “And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words which the Lord hath commanded, that ye should do them. Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.” (Exodus 35:1,2) Back then disobeying the Sabbath was so bad that people were killed for disobeying it. Thankfully, God is more lenient to people of the new covenant. Lastly, do not judge people who obey the Sabbath. Paul said, “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days.” (Colossians 2:16) Honoring the Sabbath should never be looked down upon. This is judging wrongfully according to scripture, which is evil. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that not only me but other Christians will remember to keep the Sabbath day holy. I am sorry each time I forget it and I am sure other believers feel the same way. Forgive us, Lord, for not resting on Your appointed day. Help me to make it a priority above all other days to rest from my labors and to only do Your will. One thing I have been bad at is going out to eat on the Sabbath day. I have learned that I am keeping others working on this important day and I will stop doing this also. Anything I choose to do may it be Your will and not my own. Help me to not be led by my own desires, but by the wisdom that You give to me. Only through the Holy Spirit can I be led to know the truth and also walk in it. So fill me with the Spirit, that Your light will shine brightly inside and outside of me. I don’t wish to keep Your light and abundance of love to myself, but to share it with others. We are a light in this darkened world, but only if You are dwelling in us. I love You, Lord. I give You praise and honor, this day and forever. You deserve all the glory. Use me for Your kingdom. I trust in You. Amen.
