The Comforter

It is so sad to know of and see so many people that have no comforter. The Holy Spirit is missing in their lives and they are so lost. Solomon saw this too, when he said, 1“So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.” Here is why it is hard to see this and take it in. Because God has blessed my life with a comforter, I am able to see these people’s lives. And what I see are people that are lost and do not even realize it. What life offers them us what they need, while their thoughts and desires are apart from God. They do not see that these material things are meaningless in the long run. Their spirits then becomes vexed and very problematic when there is no comforter, but replaced with other things. Even some people proclaim to be believers in Christ but live a life contrary to God and therefore have no comforter. They do not realize that the Lord Jesus has given us a comforter, that we may have direction in life. It is this comforter that God knew that we needed and, therefore the Holy Spirit came into this world. And in this fashion, the 2“the Spirit of truth” has come and changed lives. It is this same Spirit that opens the doors to Jesus in our lives. He did say to 3“abide in me, and I in you”, and now we know how this happens. The Holy Spirit is what empowers us and gives way to us doing great things in the name of the Lord Jesus. And this is all because Jesus is with us.

When Jesus was about to leave this earthly life, He explained to His disciples that He would always be with them. He said, 2“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you”, for 2“I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.” So with the Holy Ghost, Jesus indwells inside of every believer. And how does the Lord Jesus manifest Himself to us? Well, I’d tell you but it is better to have Jesus answer this question. He said, 2“he that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” So doing as God commands is vital to having the Holy Spirit come. Now, Let’s see if Jesus can make things even more clear about how the Holy Spirit can dwell inside of us and when. He said, 2“if a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” So we learn that as we understand Jesus more and more and then do as He says, the Lord Jesus and our Heavenly Father will abide in of us. Yes, we become living and breathing disciples of the Lord Jesus, for He is now living inside of us. There is where we learn and grow in the faith and touch many lives. But best of all, as Jesus abides in us, there is peace and understanding. He said, 2“peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” I promise that if you start reading the Bible and doing as God’s Word says, the comforter will also come unto you.

Let us pray:
Lord God, we come to You today with thanks and a desire to learn more of You. We know that what we learn in this life does not hold a candle to what You can teach us. Your words give us breath and helps us through our day. Thank You for giving us understanding, as we read the Bible. It is You, God, that helps Your words fly off the pages, in order to pierce our hearts. We would still be stumbling through life if You did not give us direction. And God we are so grateful for the knowledge that You give us daily. I am stronger when Your Words are imprinted upon on my heart. And best of all, what You teach me, helps me grow in the faith. As I do as You say, my love for You and my neighbor increases. Doing as You command is the best feeling that I could ever get. And the reason is, in those moments, You are dwelling inside of me. I am not comfortless for Your presence has come over me and given me peace. I have learned God that nothing in this world is greater than Your love. And where do I find this love but by reading the Bible, praying and doing as it says. This is true love and You have shown this to me. Thank You Lord. I am grateful to have You abide in me. I am stronger every day that You are there. I love You. Amen.

2 Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive.
3 Yea, better is he than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.
4 Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.
5 The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.
6 Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.
7 Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun.
8 There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.
9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?
12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
13 Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.
14 For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becometh poor.
15 I considered all the living which walk under the sun, with the second child that shall stand up in his stead.
16 There is no end of all the people, even of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

3John 15:1-10 (KJV)
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
