The Bible is specific when it comes to Jesus and his earthly family. Though it does make mention that Jesus was born of Mary as a virgin, this did not continue, since we learn in two different chapters of Matthew and Mark that she had children of her own after Jesus was born. So who were her children, you might ask? Well, we know the son’s names, starting with Jesus and then we have James, Joses, Juda, and Simon. Mary also had daughters, but unfortunately, these details were left out, so we don’t know their names. Now, as I mentioned, there is evidence of these things in the Bible, as this is not made up. In Matthew 13 it was written, 2“and when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?” (Matthew 13:54-56) And in Mark 6, it is written, 3“And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.” (Mark 6:1-3) Therefore, Jesus had brothers and sisters of his Mother Mary and Joseph.
People may try to dispute the fact that Mary had her own children and say that those that do the will of the Father are called into His family, which is true. This is recorded in Matthew 12, 1“while he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.” (Matthew 12:46-50) Jesus’s brothers and sisters, from the family of Mary and Joseph, were also there when Jesus made this remark. However, He knew also that others could be called the same, if they did the will of God. Now, Catholics believe that Mary was always a virgin. They even call it “perpetual virginity of Mary”. This belief is taught in the Catholic church and is referenced on a Wikipedia page. It reads, “the perpetual virginity of Mary is a Marian doctrine, taught by the Catholic Church and held by a number of groups in Christianity, which asserts that Mary (the mother of Jesus) was always a virgin, before, during and after the birth of Jesus Christ. This doctrine also proclaims that Mary had no marital relations after Jesus’ birth nor gave birth to any children other than Jesus.” So as you can see, this doctrine of Mary goes against the Bible. If Catholics would just read the Bible, they would know that Mary was not always a virgin, but also had a family.
Let us pray:
Lord, it is my prayer that people will start reading the Bible for themselves. This way they will begin to know Your truths in Your Word, and no longer be deceived by the doctrines of men. I am very worried that too many people that say they are Christian are actually believing in false doctrines and don’t even realize it. It would be very sad to see these people go before You in judgment one day, not realizing that they were walking on the path of destruction when they died. This would be devastating, God. And it is not my wish that anyone should perish in their unbelief, but to know You and to find wisdom and understanding from the Bible. So wake people up from all religions, so that people will decide for themselves to know Your truth. Then, can You pour into them the Holy Spirit, that they may be led to know the truth from above. Truly, it is taught in scripture that Mary needed a Savior and therefore magnified the Lord. So we ought to also worship You, oh Lord, and not Mary. It is also taught that Mary was not always a virgin, but had her own family. So people that pray to the virgin May are very off track and need to repent. For surely, this is idolatry and is uncalled for in Your Kingdom, oh Lord. Convict such people to throw out there rosary beads. To break into pieces their idols of Mary and the Saints. Surely, we cannot walk in Your presence if we continue to do things of the flesh. So this day, I promise to allow You to cast out of my life anything that is contrary to You. And my prayer is that people in the Catholic faith will do the same. That they will begin to read the Bible daily, pray often, and come to You, as their personal Savior. I love You, Lord. Amen.
