God can rescue us when we are in distress or in danger. Even when we face a very difficult decision to make, He will clear our minds and give us direction. We may not see an easy way out but the Lord does. Just as Jacob was to be confronted with his brother Esau and His four hundred men, He knew that only God could deliver Him. He knew that Esau sought out to kill him and was afraid. In these trying times he prayed to God for deliverance. He lifted up his voice and said, “I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant.” “Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children.” Though he was afraid he trusted in the one true God to bring peace to his household. The Lord surely answered his prayers and softened Esau’s heart. As Esau’s men came to Jacob’s camp, Jacob bowed his face down to the ground as if it was his last moments before his death. However, what happened next was a miracle and a marvelous reunion between the two brothers. As Jacob was kneeling down “Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.” Jacob had no more need to fear for there was only love found in the arms of his brother.
The story of Jacob and Esau truly helps me understand what God’s love is about. When we pray with all sincerity of heart He listens. If we are in bondage He comes to our rescue and delivers us peace. Sometimes he speaks through the hearts of others to bring us blessings. Even those we may not have gotten along with in the past he softens their hearts. When family members are no longer on speaking terms with us, He mends their hearts as we seek the Lord. Sometimes all it takes is a small gesture of kindness to bring people back together once again. I thank the Lord for His mercy. Though I don’t deserve His love and affection He continues to come for me. I sing out in praise because of the freedom He gives me. As I call on His Name He comes to my rescue. His love brightens my life from within. Oh Lord, I know You are there and I need You this hour. Help me love one another as You love me. Help me mend all family ties that are broken. Help me love any family member that is far from me. Soften their hearts to accept my loving embrace. My heart is full this day. I am strengthened because You give Your all to me. You made a way for me to be saved. You have given me peace of mind and my path is straight with You by my side. Though lives trials are hard I know that You can make them light. I love You.
Genesis 32:6-12 (KJV)
6 And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
7 Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;
8 And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.
9 And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the Lord which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:
10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.
11 Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children.
12 And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
Genesis 33:1-4 (KJV)
1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.
2 And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.
3 And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4 And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.
