It is important to be seeking God at all times in our lives, during the good times and the bad. This is especially true during the different trials that crop up and when the enemy is closing in on us, in order to strike us down. We cannot stand strong on our own, but need God in our lives to nourish us and to help us stay strong in the faith. Otherwise, we are like sitting ducks, while the enemy does what he wills in our lives, as we fall into sin. When we let our guards down, the Lord can’t help us any longer. So learn from David. He enquired upon the Lord when he saw the Philistines coming to wage war against Israel. It is written, 1“and David enquired of God, saying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? And wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the Lord said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine hand. So they came up to Baalperazim; and David smote them there. Then David said, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand like the breaking forth of waters: therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim. And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burned with fire.” (1 Chronicles 14:10-12) So as David called upon God, He did answer him. God did not let Israel fall into the hands of the wicked, because of the faith of David. The men of Israel may have fought the war, but the wicked was destroyed by the hand of God. Even their false gods were burned up. Praise God that David prayed. The Lord is ready to fight for our cause, but we must allow Him to fight with us.
With David being king, the enemy continued to fight against him and the kingdom of Israel. Even the Philistines came back again to wage war against David, in order to take the kingdom for themselves once and for all. It was written that 1“the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley. Therefore David enquired again of God; and God said unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to smite the host of the Philistines. David therefore did as God commanded him: and they smote the host of the Philistines from Gibeon even to Gazer. And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the Lord brought the fear of him upon all nations.” (1 Chronicles 14:13-17) So what do we learn here? We learn that David trusted in God for answers. He saw the enemies waging war against him and he did not want to go forth trying to do things on his own or with the help of others outside of God. Praise God for that kind of faith. This is why God heard him both times he prayed and gave him not only a way to win the war, but be there fighting the war with David. I love how God said that he would go forth with him to smite the enemy. My friends, if you trust in God, Satan and his evil and demonic forces will not have power over you any longer. When God is for You, the enemy has no place in your life also, but is destroyed by His mighty hand.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, help us fight the enemy. Don’t allow the enemy to take control of our lives any longer, but cast every evil force to be far from us. We do not wish to have any more demonic forces to have hold of our lives, but to be drawn to You instead. So cast out any evil spirits from us now, in Your mighty Name, Jesus. I call upon You now to lead us to safety and to destroy the enemy in our lives. Help us come out of a life of sin, that we may do more than say we love and believe in You, but also keep Your commandments. I know that if I am not able to resist temptation, I am unable to do this, but when the Holy Spirit is present, I can do all things. So I ask that Your presence will fall upon us now, Lord, as we pray this. We admit that we are a sinner and confess our sins openly to You now. We desire to have Your blood to cover us and wash us clean. It is our prayer that You will also come into our lives fully. Help us no longer be pulled into different directions while falling into different addictions and bad habits. Instead, lead us by the hand. Fill us up with fruits of the Spirit, that we may be a servant for Your kingdom instead of the flesh. The world only wants to deceive us into thinking that having pleasure in lust is ok, but Satan is a liar, and we pray that You will cast Him out of our lives once and for all. We do not wish to be a servant to sin, but a servant for You, God. You are our delight and not what the world offers. You are God and we worship You, Jesus. We need You, Lord, every day of our lives. Be near us, and don’t let us fall victim to the enemy. Build us up with Your armor and we will come out victorious. I love You, Lord. All I want to do Is do Your will. So lead me on the path of righteousness. Amen.
