It is sad to think that a portion of the Bible is neglected to be read at home and taught in churches now-a-days. One such book is the book of Revelation. Now, it is because pastors don’t teach from it, is why people are avoiding to study this amazing book. You may ask why? Well, it is because they think it would too hard to for them and other people to understand. How untrue this really is, for those that are seeking God and are filled with Holy Spirit are able to read and comprehend what God is saying. Therefore, this is only true for those that are not for God and not in the Spirit either. Those that are, however, are able to read and teach people therein. Did you know that Jesus, our Lord, spoke to John in this book of prophesy? It is true, and it is for our learning, my friends. If you were to read this book, then you would know that it is a book we should be studying, for it applies to the day we live in now. It is also here to warn us of the coming of our Lord and to be ready when He returns. So, looking into the beginning of this book, we see that Jesus has different angels designated over His churches. This is so that they receive His instruction and understand if they are on the right path or not. In this devotion, we will learn what the Lord had the angel write, when it came to the church in Sardis.
The 3rd book of Revelation begins with Jesus saying, 1“and unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.” (Revelation 3:1,2) So God saw these people and though they were alive and well, they were dead in their sins. Because they were wrapped up in the things of this world, they were asleep when it came to the things of God. Therefore, there is no joy, but superficial joy in their lives. If they had given up the things of the flesh, then they would have been built up in God’s works and find true joy. These people, like many people in churches now have a great need to repent and come to Jesus. And any person that desires to be saved must come unto Jesus first. This means giving up what is holding you back from following Him and repenting of your sins. This is exactly what Jesus told the congregation of this church. He said, 1“remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.” (Revelation 3:3)
The problem with this church and many others in our day is that most people that attend them don’t hold fast to what they have been taught from the Bible. In their hearts, they may know the truth of God, but do not do anything with their knowledge. Therefore, they do not obey the Lord, their God, for other things have taken His place. They enjoy what the world offers now and are not interested in what God can do for them. This is why the Lord was calling this church to repent of their sins. Maybe then would they start seeking God and watch for Jesus. This means, seeking Him daily, not just once a day in church. Now, among those people that went to that church, there were few of them that did walk in their faith. To these people, Jesus said, 1“thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.” (Revelation 3:4) Wouldn’t it be awesome if you were one of these individuals? It sure would be, for this would mean that you are saved. Lastly, Jesus said, 1“he that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” (Revelation 3:5) I pray that you will listen to Jesus’s call and be made white, through His blood. Then, will you be welcomed into heaven and not blotted out of the book of life.
Let us pray:
Lord, I pray that people will come to know You as their one true God, and no longer serve other idols in their lives. Surely, people have put their worldly things in place of You, where You should be the first person we go to in life. This is sad, as people now have doing good backwards, where their works are only good to men and not for You. They make up for themselves what they should be doing, instead of seeking Your hand to see if it is right. Therefore, their own instincts, apart from You, have led them astray into paths that don’t lead to You. So Lord, if any of these people proclaim to be Christians, wake them up to their sins. Help them know what is right, that they may repent now before it is too late. Yes, Lord, people are far from You and don’t even realize it. The evils of this world have a stronghold on these people’s lives and until the Holy Spirit enters them, will they never know You. So I pray for Your fire to enter their lives. Stir within them the need to be made clean. In their broken state, may they call upon Your Name and find forgiveness. They need Your mercy now, as I do not wish to see any people that say they are believers go to hell. You are our Savior and have the power to save them and lead them to people in the faith that can help them. Help us all be a light to this lost generation and also to our fellow brothers and sisters in the faith. If any of them are having a hard time with their faith now, may they find courage through prayer, reading the Bible and fellowshipping with others in the faith. All we can do Lord, is to lead them to You. Then, will they discover the greatest joy of all. I love You Lord. Amen.
