Atonement was always made through a blood sacrifice. First with animals in the old covenant and lastly with Jesus’s sacrificial offering on the cross. You will learn that the death of the animal is where people’s sins were atoned for. They didn’t have a sacrifice that would end all sacrifices yet, so these animals that died over the centuries were the best they could do. People were granted temporary forgiveness, that is until they sinned again and a new sacrifice had to be made. It is written in Numbers, chapter 15, when it comes to the law of Moses the following. “And the priest shall make an atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them; for it is ignorance: and they shall bring their offering, a sacrifice made by fire unto the Lord, and their sin offering before the Lord, for their ignorance: And it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourneth among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance.” (Numbers 15:25,26)
Back then, people needed an animal sacrifice for simply sinning in ignorance. This means without knowing they were sinning, people made it known to them that what they were doing was wrong. This is when confessions was necessary to God and an animal sacrifice was done in order to be forgiven. It is written, “And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering. And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly, when he sinneth by ignorance before the Lord, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him.” (Numbers 15:27,28) Unintentional sins need to be made known to the person in order for them to stop. Then, once they realize what they have done, they will be sorrowful for their sins to God in repentance. There are many clueless people in this world that don’t know what is right with God. However, in their sins, they will be held accountable come judgment day if they do not repent in this life. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, thank You for Your sacrificial offering for sin. Truly, the animal sacrifices had no end in sight until You came to die for us, Jesus. I am so grateful to know that I have a Savior that is alive and well today. You did rise from the grave and I am so grateful to know You personally in this life. Thank You for calling me out of a life of sin and unbelief and into a life where there is light and love from above. I am at peace, for You are with me. Nothing can replace this love I have for You, my King. Have Your way in my life. Lead me into safe pastures, where there is found constant nourishment from the Holy Spirit. Lead me from temptation. Forgive me of my sins. Help me to walk unlike the world does but in the Spirit. Awaken my soul to new things in Your kingdom. If You have a work for me that I am not aware of, help me know what that is. Your ways are my ways. I love You, Jesus. I give You praise and honor, this day and forever. Open my mouth and fill it with words I need to speak to people for Your sake. Amen.
