There are some deep dark secrets that the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints do not want people to know. One of them is how Emma Smith was called by Brigham Young to be the child of hell and the most wicked woman on earth. This was all because she was against plural marriage or polygamy and did not agree with Joseph Smith’s new-found revelation about the need for more wives. You see, being the first wife of Joseph, she believed that a man should only be married to one wife and hated the fact that Joseph Smith was secretly marrying other women, including two 14-year-old girls, women who were already married, and more. You can see how angry she must have been and how she must have felt trying to keep this all bottled up inside. Now, for her to stop her husband from having more affairs with women she thought the need to poison her husband on two occasions. This was found out and Joseph scolded her as well as Brigham, telling her that he is the child of hell and more. See below for these quotes…
“Joseph himself testified before high Heaven more than once that she had administered poison to him. There are men and women present today who can bear witness that more hell was never wrapped up in any human being than there is in her. She gave him too heavy a dose and he vomited it up and was saved by faith.” (“BYA,” vol. 4 Gen. Conf. 7 Oct. 1863)
“Brigham described a ‘secret council,’ probably the November 5 [1843] meeting, at which he [Young] said Joseph accused Emma of the poisoning and ‘called upon her to deny it if she could… He told her that she was a child of hell, and literally the most wicked woman on this earth, that there was not one more wicked than she. He told her where she got the poison, and how she put it in a cup of coffee; said he, “You got that poison so and so, and I drank it, but you could not kill me.” When it entered his stomach he went to the door and threw it off. He spoke to her in that council in a very severe manner, and she never said one word in reply. I have witnesses all around, who can testify that I am now telling the truth. Twice she undertook to kill him.’ He did not elaborate on the alleged second occurance.” (Brigham Young’s address, 7 October, 1866, in Semi-annual Conference)
“Also related that when Emma, Joseph’s first wife, heard of the Revelation [on polygamy] she sought the life of Joseph and tired to poison him, but he was delivered by the Power of God. (“Diary of Charles Lowell Walker ,” vol. 1, p. 438, 17 December 1876)
The Mormon church has made out Emma as a faithful wife to her husband Joseph, but as we see from the quotes above this was far from truth. She also did not continue with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and joined the Reorganized Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when Joseph died. So remember what you’ve learned today if you are a practicing Mormon. Your church likes to leave out details like this and you got to ask why. You should wondering if there were others who were also against plural marriage/polygamy. As for the official Book of Mormon stance on the multiple wives theory, it is called an abomination to God, which I am sure Emma also believed. This is what Joseph’s book reads…
“And now I make an end of speaking unto you concerning this pride. And were it not that I must speak unto you concerning a grosser crime, my heart would rejoice exceedingly because of you. But the word of God burdens me because of your grosser crimes. For behold, thus saith the Lord: This people begin to wax in iniquity; they understand not the scriptures, for they seek to excuse themselves in committing whoredoms, because of the things which were written concerning David, and Solomon his son. Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.” (Jacob 2:22-24)
This is contrary to Joseph’s later book, which Emma disagreed with, as it says the opposite about David and Solomon’s wives. See for yourself as it says god justified them having more wives, and therefore would allow Joseph to do the same…
David also received many wives and concubines, and also Solomon and Moses my servants, as also many others of my servants, from the beginning of creation until this time; and in nothing did they sin save in those things which they received not of me. David’s wives and concubines were given unto him of me, by the hand of Nathan, my servant, and others of the prophets who had the keys of this power; and n none of these things did he sin against me save in the case of Uriah and his wife; and, therefore he hath fallen from his exaltation, and received his portion; and he shall not inherit them out of the world, for I gave them unto another, saith the Lord.” (Doctrine And Covenants 132:38,39).
It is so interesting how the Mormons have two different books that disagree with one another, of which I would call a contradiction. As for what God really thinks of us as men and woman on earth, He said, “neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.” (Deuteronomy 17:17) This is a reminder to exercise self-control and avoid succumbing to the temptation of multiple partners. By focusing on building deep and meaningful connections with one’s spouse, one can cultivate a loving and stable relationship that brings greater contentment. Moreover, this advice serves as a safeguard against division within families and communities, emphasizing the importance of loyalty, fidelity, and unity. Therefore, God was not for having more wives but one wife. Only the devil would give Joseph Smith the desire to fornicate with more women outside his wife. These adulterous thoughts led to adultery and a hatred of Emma towards Joseph. Therefore, Joseph failed in leading his church the moment he added polygamy to the mix, along with his other false beliefs regarding exaltation and works for the dead that he succumbed to over time. This makes him a false prophet. Amen.
