It is interesting that Mormons stick with the Father having a physical body and not just a spirit, when in two places in the Book of Mormon we learn that the Father is a spirit with no mention of a body. This can be found in both Alma, chapters 18 and 22. We covered chapter 18 already HERE. Chapter 22 reads, “and the king said: Is God that Great Spirit that brought our fathers out of the land of Jerusalem? And Aaron said unto him: Yea, he is that Great Spirit, and he created all things both in heaven and in earth. Believest thou this? And he said: Yea, I believe that the Great Spirit created all things, and I desire that ye should tell me concerning all these things, and I will believe thy words.” (Alma 22:9-11) These verses collide with their later teachings that say, “the Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.” (D&C 130:22) This teaches that the Holy Spirit dwells in us, but they don’t realize that the Father dwells in the son, which means He is a Spirit also. Jesus said, “believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.” (John 14:10)
Jesus said the Father is a spirit, for He dwells in Him, the same way the Holy Spirit dwells in us. As the Father dwells in the son, he also does not have a body. Jesus said, “woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:21-24) He also taught that spirits do not have a body of flesh and bones. Meaning His Father is a Spirit only. “And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.” (Luke 24:36-39) So who will you believe? The false prophets and teachers in Mormonism or what Jesus and His Word say about God in the Bible? I choose God and the Bible. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that Mormons will stop mocking Christians, but come to know us as true followers of You, Jesus. When their arrogance wears off, they will see Your light in us. How You are leading Your people in these latter days. You have called us and we are in all world preaching the gospel. Among these people, Mormons need to hear the true gospel as much as anyone else. When lost people begin to learn humility they will thank us and You for telling them the truth while they still have breath. There is so much wisdom to unpack when it comes to Your Words in the Bible. If people would simply give their lives to You, they would be more desirous to also live for You and do as You say. But how can we know what You want for our lives and do as You say if we are not engaged with You in Bible study daily, praying often, worshipping You through music, doing Your service in the harvest, and more. I am grateful for Your spiritual giftings in my life. I would not be where I am today if You were not with me. People may look at me and think that I am an awful person because I reach out to Mormons, including Mormon Missionaries with the gospel, but if their eyes were opened, they would know I am only leading them straightway to You, Jesus. I love You, God. Amen.
