We know as Christians that fornication, which is sex outside of marriage, along with pornography is sinful in the sight of God. Now, to top this off, when a person causes the opposite or the same sex to have intercourse with them, this is called rape and it is very grievous in the sight of God. Rape takes fornication and porn to the next level with God. To these people, God’s wrath is upon them. This is because the person who has raped the individual has defiled them and taken away what is precious to them. Speaking of women, this could be their virginity, their trust with men, only having children with their husband, and caused them to have a baby out of wedlock, have an abortion (which I hope never happens), or put the baby up for adoption. Dinah was a victim of rape, and we will learn about her experience and the grief it caused the family of Jacob next. It is important to know what the Bible says on this matter, so we know how to properly handle this situation.
The sad story of what happened to Dinah is the following. “And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land. And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her. And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel. And Shechem spake unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife. And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come. And Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him. And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter: which thing ought not to be done.” (Genesis 34:1-7)
The consequence of fornication and rape is often abortion. Keeping the baby or adoption should be what takes place, but because of the infused stress caused because of rape, the woman can’t think straight. Therefore, they make rash decisions like abortion that often haunt the woman for the rest of their lives. Because of finances, these young kids and even young adults often don’ think they can afford a pregnancy. And raising a child that isn’t lawfully theirs is hard to fathom. So here we have people making difficult choices like this because lust was taken to a place it shouldn’t have. This always leaves people hurting in the end. Not only is the victim left hurt and scared, but families are often not the same anymore. There is anger towards the person who raped them and trusting men like before is gone, which is sad. Only God can mend the broken heart and make all things new again. His peace and guidance are what a person needs when something as terrible as this happens. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will give every woman that has been raped peace that is beyond her understanding. Fill her with Your love and help her know that many people around care so deeply for her. At the moment there is much anger inside their hearts. Trust for men is gone out the window. If a pregnancy is involved, abortion is often spoken of. It is my prayer, however, that these women do not make any rash decisions. Help them know how precious all children are, no matter how they come into the world. If a woman is pregnant and cannot fathom keeping that child, then give them over to thoughts of adoption instead. There are many married couples that would love to have children and cannot, or would just love to adopt. Praise God for families like this. These women need Your hand in their lives. Guide and direct them in the ways of righteousness. Help them to also trust men once again, especially their husband. I love You, Lord. I trust in You, God. Amen.
