It was when the Lord appeared to Abram like in times past, that He was told something that only Jesus said when He was on earth. That was to be perfect. This was before God changed his name to Abraham and when He made a covenant with him. I love how Abram responded by falling down on his face in worship. Praise God. These verses read, “and when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, as for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.” (Genesis 17:1-5) It is when God comes into our lives, this is when we covenant unto God that we are willing to do His will above all else. Being perfect means listening to God and hearkening unto His voice. This is exactly what God wants from each of us.
Speaking of loving our neighbor, Jesus told the people to also be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect. Sound familiar? It should, for the Lord told Abram the same thing. These verses read, “but I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” (Matthew 5:44-48) Now go forth and love one another in a way that would approve. This means letting him get rid of all your walls and forgiveness is all that is left. Then, can we love one another as we love God. By doing this, God will speak to you. It is up to You to do is will and hearken unto His voice. This is being perfect in His sight. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I covenant between me and thee this day that I will hear thy voice and also hearken to what You are leading me in. As You have called us all to be perfect, I ask that You be my guide in this dark world we live in. So many people would like to take me in different directions, which would lead me far from You. Surely, Satan is using people to trick them into thinking they are doing Your will, but really it is only their own. No matter what I gain in this life, if it isn’t for You and Your kingdom, then I ask that You rip it out of my life. Don’t allow me to walk in anything that is unholy and wicked. To transgress against the God I love is something I never wish to do again. You are my true love God, and I need more of Your presence in my life to be happy. Move and shape me into the person I am called to be. Don’t allow sin to abound, but that Your righteousness will prevail within me. I want more of Your be done and less of my own. Help me to love one another the way You love us. Help me to forgive one another as You forgive us. I give You my heart, my soul, and my life. I love You, Jesus. I trust in You. Amen.
