Nathan’s Prophesy About David’s Sin Came True

In 2 Samuel 16, we learn that David was still hiding out with his men outside the walls of Jerusalem. Absalom had just declared himself king of Hebron, while winning people’s hearts in Jerusalem, and was coming back to town. He did this in order to take over the kingdom. This is why David took his men and fled in the wilderness until things settled over. However, as we continue reading, Absalom has now come back to Jerusalem. He is ready to take what he thought was his in the first place, which is to become king. However, as we will continue to learn, this was not in God’s plan. Now, as these events began to take shape, David was with his men and got some needed supplies from his friend Ziba. He was the person that gave him and his men food, drink and donkeys to ride on. What a great guy. However, as they were talking, a man named Shimei was very mad and came to David. He came to him cursing, throwing stones, and even dirt in his face, while saying, ²“come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial: The Lord hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul.” (2 Samuel 16:7,8) He also said more, but it was to blame David for what the philistines did to Saul and his people. However, David’s response was very interesting. He said to his men, ²“so let him curse, because the Lord hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?” (2 Samuel 16:10) And while this was happening ²“Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king.” (2 Samuel 16:16) He was on the side of David, but was there to make Absalom believe he was for him, in order to see what he was up to, and then report back to David.

It was in this time that ²“Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father’s concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong. So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.” (2 Samuel 16:21,22) How sick and wrong was this? And to think that he thought he was doing what was right for the people was sick and twisted. So this vile sexual act was fulfilled by Nathan the prophet, which he spoke to David when he said, ¹“thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.” (2 Samuel 12:11) Among these prostitutes or mistresses were ten women in all, and now they have also laid with David’s own son. Wow, to think that doing this would make the people like him more and want to make him the king is crazy to even think about. Truly, Satan was working on him, making him believe in some twisted things because of his good looks. Now, here are some things to get out of this message. Remember that it is better to not get angry when people are upset with you. It is never good when we do things that involve fornication or adultery. These are vial acts, and it was a matter of time before David suffered because of it. Don’t ever think that God is ok with you looking at pornography also. God’s standards are higher than our own. Therefore, live your life for Him, and He will cleanse your wicked heart. Even His blood will cover you and give you clean thoughts and a loving heart towards everyone.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, give people understanding this day. Help them know if what they are doing is for You or against You. And if what people are up to is not in line with Your standards, convict them of their sins. People need to understand that repentance is not a bad thing, but necessary, in order for You to do a work in our lives. Surely, we cannot continue living in willful sin and think that we are ok in Your sight. People know already that they are in sin, but are only denying it, in order to continue to fulfill their own lusts. Even their conscience is acting up, and because of what they are watching on TV, looking at on their phones and other devices, places they go to, along with people they hang out with, they have become numb to what is good and what is evil. This is very disheartening and can only stop if people would allow You to come into their lives. Then, would they know that living a life pleasing for You also means changing our lifestyle to fit Yours. For how can the Holy Spirit come inside of me if I am continually looking at porn, going to the bars, doing drugs, watching TV and movies with bad language, killing, and sexual connotations, playing shoot-em-up games, and listening to the wrong music. The answer is that I cannot be on Your side and still do these things. So I pray that You will continue to work in my life and others. This way our choices will become righteous and holy. Even our actions and what we decide to do will also reflect this will to follow You. I love You, Lord. Thank You for leading me on the right path. I was lost, but You found me. Your blood has covered me and now I am forgiven. Thank You, Lord. I give You the praise and the glory. Amen.

1 And the Lord sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
2 The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:
3 But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
4 And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
5 And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the Lord liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:
6 And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

17 And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
18 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?
19 But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.
21 Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.
22 And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether God will be gracious to me, that the child may live?
23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.
24 And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the Lord loved him.

29 And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
30 And he took their king’s crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David’s head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.

1 And when David was a little past the top of the hill, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and an hundred bunches of raisins, and an hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine.
2 And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king’s household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink.
3 And the king said, And where is thy master’s son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem: for he said, To day shall the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father.
4 Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine are all that pertained unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I humbly beseech thee that I may find grace in thy sight, my lord, O king.
5 And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.
6 And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.
7 And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:
8 The Lord hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the Lord hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a bloody man.
9 Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.
10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? so let him curse, because the Lord hath said unto him, Curse David. Who shall then say, Wherefore hast thou done so?
11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the Lord hath bidden him.
12 It may be that the Lord will look on mine affliction, and that the Lord will requite me good for his cursing this day.
13 And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill’s side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.
14 And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary, and refreshed themselves there.
15 And Absalom, and all the people the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him.
16 And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, God save the king, God save the king.
17 And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend?
18 And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom the Lord, and this people, and all the men of Israel, choose, his will I be, and with him will I abide.
19 And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father’s presence, so will I be in thy presence.
20 Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give counsel among you what we shall do.
21 And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father’s concubines, which he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel shall hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then shall the hands of all that are with thee be strong.
22 So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.
23 And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counselled in those days, was as if a man had enquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.
