Tonight, as I was walking around my neighborhood on Halloween night, I saw many people that seemed like zombies. Even their variety of scary and witches costumes were evil in nature. The parents and the kids were going house to house trick-or-treating and thinking nothing of it. It seemed like they didn’t care much about conversation either, except for one man that is, who did realize that this day is pagan and not of God. The other people I spoke with were either confused about what I was saying about Halloween, were mad that I was even out on the streets, or deep in thought afterword’s. Nonetheless, it was apparent that many of those same people said they were believers in Jesus. I asked many of them if they believed in Jesus and they said yes. One person even said that their whole family has been baptized. However, when I mentioned that we are to be a light in this world and not walk in darkness, they had no answer. In saying this, I hoped it would bring people to know what Jesus said and let it convict them. He said, 1“ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16) These verses should wake people up to no longer willfully do the things of this world, especially if they are dark in nature, but stand apart from it with God’s light in them. In regards to walking in God’s light and not in darkness, this truth comes from the Bible. Those that read it would know that this is true.
It was John that said, 2“this then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:5-9) Therefore, many people are lying to themselves, saying that they believe in God, when they voluntarily participate in such a dark and evil day as Halloween, instead of abiding in Jesus. Please know that this day is not of God, but of the devil. This truth comes from the Holy Spirit which has convicted me. This is also what I shared with people on the streets. I also told them that Jesus does not rule this day, but Satan. That is why people dress up and do what they do on this day. In saying that, I knew most people were not interested. However, what I tried to be clear on is that we cannot be for God and also be of the world, otherwise, we are on the path of destruction. Surely, many of these people knew of Jesus, but have not put that faith into action yet. Instead, they make themselves out to be good people at church, but really they are walking in sin. This is because they are not reading the Bible daily or doing His will. It is my prayer that people wake up to follow Jesus and not just say they believe. Then, will they be led out of darkness and into His glorious light.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray for every person that is deceived into believing that Halloween is OK and therefore, participates in it each year. There is so much wickedness and evil in this day and I pray that people will wake up to know this. You have declared this truth in my heart, and I am so grateful. In the past, I may have thought nothing of this day and even think that going to haunted houses were cool and all, until You convicted me of my sins. Lord, the day that You opened my eyes, I was finally able to see through the outside appearance of what takes place on this day and see that it is Satan driving it all. Surely, Lord, You would never have anything to do with scaring people, or have people dress up in costumes that only degrade You, or go to people’s homes, where it is decorated inside or out with ghosts, bones, witches or other gruesome things. Instead, You would cast these things out of Your sight and speak out against it. Truly, Lord, it was hard just being outside today, while witnessing to people. The Spirit out there was very dark and evil, and therefore, it was apparent that people were being led astray. Lord, this saddens me greatly to see people that I know and others that say they believe in You walk in such darkness. Oh, how I wish that people would wake up to their sins and follow You, that You may scatter the darkness in their life and lead them into Your light. Surely, we should be seeking Your will and not what everybody else says is good. Your ways trump what we think and feel. This I believe and honor You in what You have spoken in the Bible and in prayer. I love You more than anything this world makes out to be good, for there is only guilt and shame in that. So fill me up with your love. I want more of You and less of me. Keep me on Your righteous path, that I may shine Your light for all to say. I love You Lord. Amen.
