Many long to know the keys to eternal life in heaven. A certain lawyer also desired to know this, when He asked Jesus, “what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” The Lord answered, “what is written in the law? how readest thou?” The man replied, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.” Jesus then replied, “Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.” It is only through our love for God and our neighbor will we live again in heaven. Those that truly love the Lord will also love their neighbor. The question is, do you love your neighbor? When you see someone that is sick and afflicted do you care for them or just stair and walk away? When you see someone on the side of the road, hungry and cold, do you stop and help them or just walk right past them? The sad thing is, only few go the extra mile to love their neighbor. Only few stop and care for the needy. The people on the streets are weary and just need some comfort. Show your love, as true Christians, and care for them. See life through their eyes, just for a moment. If you just knew how broken they are inside you would jump to help them. Do as the Samaritan did and have compassion on them. He saw a man suffering and “went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine.” He then “set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.”
When speaking of the good Samaritan, Jesus tells us to “go, and do thou likewise.”. Listen to His words for they hold the keys to eternal life in heaven. As you love the Lord, His love will be manifested in your life. Have compassion on others as Jesus has for us. Be strong in the faith so that Jesus can count on you to show His love towards all men. Take Him by the hand and let Him lead you to those in need. When you see the homeless, stop what you are doing and help them. Have things ready to give to them, like clothes, shoes and coats. If they are hungry, buy them food. If they are sick, get them medicine. Bandage up their wounds and pray for their healing. Share the love of Jesus with those in need. Throw your arms around them and let them know that God loves them. Pray that they may be comforted in these hard times. Pray that Jesus will help them get off the streets and back into a home again soon. Oh Lord, my heart breaks to see so many people homeless in this city and across the world. I want to help them all but I need help. Change the hearts of people that they may have a greater desire to help the poor. Pierce their souls that they may truly follow You in actions. I believe in Your words. I know that we as Christians have a great need to lead by example. May our hearts always be pointed to You and others. May your light shine bright in my life. Lead me Lord, all the days of my life. I love You.
Luke 10:25-37 (KJV)
And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
