Jesus and the Jewish people fulfilled two prophesies in Psalm 118. The first being, “The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.” (Psalm 118:22,23) This is fulfilled in Mark 12. He wrote, speaking of Jesus, “and have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.” (Mark 12:10-12) Jesus spoke of Himself when it comes to the stone which the builders rejected. Although Jesus is the head of the church, the Jews reject Him and what Christians say about Him. And so the Jewish people have fulfilled this prophecy when it comes to Jesus being rejected by His own people.
The second fulfilled prophesy is “blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord“. (Psalm 118:26) This speaks of the promised messiah coming among man, although being rejected by his own people, and accepted by the Gentiles. Luke records this, of which Jesus said, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.” (Luke 13:34,35) And so the Gentiles are now delivering up the good news of Jesus Christ to the Jewish people in the latter days. They may have rejected Him before, but now is the time to bow down before their King, the King of the Jews. Amen and amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that more Jewish people would come to know You, Jesus, their one true God. You have come those two thousand years ago, Jesus, but still they rejected their promised Messiah and King. You proclaimed that You are the “I Am”, or “The One True God”, but they would rather stone You than accept You as Lord and God. If only Your people, the house of Israel, could learn from the past. All it would take is for them to read the New Testament and their views about You, Jesus, would be different. I can only imagine the love relationship they would have with you if they would just have an open heart to know You. I am in that love relationship now and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I need You now more than ever. Have Your way in my life. Help us reach Your people and others who are lost with the good news of the gospel. How You died for our sins, is risen, and will be returning soon. Come, Lord Jesus, come. I love You, God. Amen.
