One of the justifications of polygamy in Mormonism comes from the verses found in 2 Samuel, chapter 12. They love to manipulate verses into saying, “see, God gave David his polygamist wives, so polygamy is justified in His sight.” I am speaking of verses 7 and 8 in this chapter. Without the Holy Spirit, we can agree with the Mormons and also think that God was ok with polygamy. Therefore, we will read the verses and discuss them in detail. “And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.” (2 Samuel 12:7,8) What the Mormons really like here is the part that speaks about the master’s wives. This is because their church is founded on polygamy. If they have this wrong, then their whole church is false. So there is a need to clarify these verses by way and power of the Holy Spirit.
Michal was David’s first wife. However, she was ripped apart from him because of Saul’s desire to kill him and her being Saul’s daughter. This ended their marriage. Abigail came next, but he was not in a polygamist relationship with her yet. This happened when his lust continued forth into other women and he found Ahinoam. So David had two wives from different marriages before he started getting into trouble with more wives. So “thy master’s wives” is referring to Michal and Abigail or God giving David over to lusts in other women, not that He was for it. It is sad that Mormons steep so low as to say God gave David multiple wives where even in their book of Mormon it says the opposite. “behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord.” (Jacob 2:25) The god of Mormonism doesn’t seem to agree that these multiple wives are from him. How very interesting. In conclusion, it is important to not get caught in cults like Mormonism. They simply cause people to believe in things that are confusing and wrong all at the same time. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that more people will understand that You are only for a man having one wife in marriage. The Bible speaks clearly about this and it is sad to see different cults like Mormonism misinterpret different verses to justify their polygamist acts in their church’s history. It is terrible to see this in so-called churches that put Your name in their churches name. This is so deceptive, especially when their teachings do not come from You but from men on earth. Lord, wake people up to every type of false belief and evil tradition that comes from evil men and women on earth. I know that many of these people are simply sifted into this type of cultish lifestyle because they don’t know any better. They don’t read or understand Your words in the Bible so accepting a teaching like temple buildings, baptisms for the dead, eternal marriage, priesthood for men, and others come so easy. What has happened to the hunger in people’s hearts for You and Your words? Who still reads and study’s the Bible daily? Who still prays often? If this was happening, then more people would learn from You. I love You, God. Amen.
