The commandments of God were not just important to the children of Israel in the times of the old covenant, but are also important to us now. I am speaking of the ten commandments, including the two greatest commandments, and other commands of God in our lives. As God is leading us, we don’t just hear His request, but do as He says. This is what is called obedience to the Lord, whom we love and would call our King. It is written, “speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue: And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God. I am the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the Lord your God.” (Numbers 15:38-41) We need to remember that God’s commandments are important and not disregard them as the world does.
Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15) “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.” (John 15:10) “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (John 15:12-14) Lastly, He said, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22:13,14) We learn that those who do what Jesus says are called His friends. We also love Him if we keep His commandments, and also abide in His love. It is taught that we are to love God with all our hearts, mind, and strength and our neighbors as ourselves. These are the two greatest commandments. Lastly, those who keep God’s commandments and do as He says throughout their lifetime, are those people who will be able to enter through the gates of New Jerusalem, which is part of the new earth. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will be the one that helps us keep Your commandments. I know that we cannot achieve this in our own strength, but only if we abide in Your love. God, be with me and help me do as You say. My flesh is weak, but with Your presence in my life, I am strong. The enemy has no chance in causing me to fall by his temptations when You are with me. Even today I was scrolling down a webpage and saw something I shouldn’t. It was the Holy Spirit that helped me click out of the page as soon as I saw the image. What this means is that You are building me up in the Spirit. Satan can come at me with full force, but I will fight the good fight with the whole armor of God in my life. Dress me up in Your apparel, Lord. I love to pray and to hear You speak to my soul as I am invoking Your Name. I wish that every person would know and understand that prayer is real. That You are listening and also respond to us. The Bible is also alive. You continue to help me know Your will through each verse that I read. Some verses fly off the pages while others don’t impact me in that moment. All I know is that You have something to teach me daily. Thank You, Lord. I love You, Jesus. Amen.
Amen! We should obey the commandments of God.
