We know as Christians to follow Jesus, for He is our God, our rock, and our firm foundation. However, cults are known to put other people ahead of Jesus, even to the point of having them follow their own prophets instead of Jesus. This is well known in a cult called Mormonism. In their so-called church, they have twelve apostles, the first presidency, and their prophet. They are all supposedly prophets, but only one is their supreme leader. And today that person’s name is Russel M. Nelson, who is 97 years old. Yes, that is true. Instead of having somebody who can actually think straight, they have a very old person who should be in the Nursing home, leading their church. And this has been happening for centuries now. So what we see are people in their leadership that aren’t just super old, but also very deceptive. Instead of them leading people to follow Jesus, they have their leaders teach the children at a very young age to sing a song called, “Follow The Prophet“. We will go over some of those evil lyrics next. Just know that the words do not point anybody to follow Jesus, but simply man-made prophets instead.
Those lyrics read, “follow the prophet, follow the prophet, follow the prophet; don’t go astray. Follow the prophet, follow the prophet, follow the prophet; he knows the way.” “Now we have a world where people are confused. If you don’t believe it, go and watch the news. We can get direction all along our way, If we heed the prophets—follow what they say.” Does this sound like they are leading people to Jesus? Absolutely not. No wonder why they tell people that their Book of Mormon is the most correct book on earth, which is blasphemy to the Bible. What we see here are people led astray by false prophets. The truth is that “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” (Hebrews 1:1,2) This is God’s direction to Christ’s church today, which is to be led by and follow Jesus and not prophets. One day I pray that more Mormons will see this truth and leave their cult for Christ’s sake. There is forgiveness and mercy for those that do. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that more people will realize that only Jesus is to be followed and not man. Yes, Lord, I will follow You and no longer people who can lead me astray. I am grateful that You have set apart men as pastors of churches, like Calvary Chapel. There are few that are wolves in sheep’s clothing, but also many who are genuine to their calling. It is so wonderful to see them teaching from the Bible, while also leading people to follow You, Jesus, and not man. Just like John the Baptist only desired to decrease as You increase, I see this in the lives of pastors also. What I desire is the same. If anybody is following me because of my writings, I ask that they repent and begin to follow You instead, God. Following a person instead of You is so dangerous. I once did this for so many years, while I was in Mormonism. I would sing the song, “Follow the Prophets”, which only led me astray into believing false teachings that are not Biblically sound. Thankfully, You came and rescued me. You helped me unlearn the lies, in order to come to know the truth. Thank You, God. I love You, Lord. Continue to teach me. My heart is open to receive You. Amen.
AMEN and by the way, I’m not opposed to Prophets but the Mormon General Authorities are not Prophets because they never prophesy even once or try to do so or pretend to do so or pretend to try to do so. I am opposed to Prophets who never even once prophesy.
“Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.”
-Paul the Apostle
Paul is speaking of imitating, not following a specific person. 1 Corinthians 11:1, NASB: “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.”. The same we can learn from basketball stars like Kobe Bryant and get better in how we shoot, pass, or more. And so we imitate different good traits in people, in order to better follow Jesus. Therefore, our allegiance is to Jesus, our God. Him we follow!
