Pride Causes Drunkenness

Because of pride, many people think they are higher than God’s law and stumble into alcoholism. Even those people who think they can withstand the effects of wine and beer are often those same people who do fall into drunkenness. And what does God’s word say about all of this? “Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine! Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand. The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet.” (Isaiah 28:1-3) “But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.” (Isaiah 28:7,8) And so we have God speaking judgement upon such people who all into drunkenness. These are those people who do stumble in their judgement and cannot act for God when they act so careless as this. Therefore, only if they repent and allow Jesus to help them change, will they find mercy.

Speaking of drunkards, Paul said, “I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.” (1 Corinthians 5:9-13) Therefore, we are not to be around the wicked people of this world, drunkards being part of this group. This is because “drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:10) We can witness to them and other willful sinners in this world, but spending our time with them outside of that is fruitless. There are some exceptions to this, which is being with people who are coming out of their addictions, that they may see our good example in us. Also, our time with our family can be very beneficial, even if they are in sin. It is because God’s light will shine down upon us and them in good conversations about Jesus and His saving grace.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will turn from their sins and follow You. This includes every person who would be called a fornicator, adulterer, drunkard, covetous, porn watcher, homosexual, liar, idolater, and any other willful sin that causes them to stumble. People in this world need to realize that there are consequences to our sinful living. Your judgements are upon such people who commit sin and have accepted it as being ok for them. This is a wayward thinking caused by the enemy, and I pray that they will be set free in Your mighty Name, Jesus. May people begin to hate sin as much as You do. That even the appearance of evil will become despicable in their sight. This has happened to me and I know that this new mindset has come because of the Holy Spirit. You have broken every chain of darkness in my life that I might be born again. No longer does the enemy have a stronghold in my life, for You are with me, Jesus. Thank You for Your protection. I love and honor You with all my heart, mind, and soul. You are the God of the universe, even the maker of all creation. For this reason, it would be awful to willfully sin before You. You can see my every move and to sin in Your presence would mean me choosing the world over You, which I cannot do. I would rather be saved than have anything that appears to be good in this world. Pleasure in the moment is not worth spending an eternity in hell. Therefore, I will live this day and forever for You. You are my greatest joy. Amen.
