Do you fall under sin easily? How do you respond when you are tempted by something you’ve been addicted to in the past? Do you just give into the temptation or come to God with it? If you come in contact with a pretty woman or handsome guy do you look at them or talk with them? Do you let your lusts get the best of you? Do you carry on conversations with your friends and co-workers more easily than your spouse? Does it seem hard to talk to your spouse?
Before God came into my life I would occasionally overcome a sin or a habit but then get right back into it again. The temptation would overtake me. The temporal sensation of joy was all I needed. I wouldn’t even think twice about looking at the opposite sex. My conversations was always better with friends or coworkers. We could always talk about each other’s problems. My wife and I always got into arguments and fights and I never cared enough to make things better.
We need to really ask ourselves if we are right with God. Are we really coming closer to Jesus in our life? Our focus needs to be on Jesus. Only through Him will we be changed. By giving in to His Holy Spirit we will want to obey His Commandments. We will learn to resist temptation. We will learn to love our spouse. We will become closer to our spouse. We will learn to appreciate him or her just like the day we met them. Other people will come into our lives but they will be no match to our spouse and our God.
As I have walk on the Lord’s path I still have many temptations. The devil comes to me and says, Oh wasn’t the feeling so great. Weren’t the images good. He even plants these images in my mind. When this happens all I can do is remember how miserable it really made me feel. I no longer want to brake my Lord’s heart. I want to love my wife and not any other woman. So when this temptation arises I come to the Lord in prayer. The Lord lifts my soul and takes away the temptation. Jesus lives in me now. He has given me strength to overcome. I have found true joy and happiness in my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Galatians 5:16,17,19-15
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,
21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
