“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.” (1 Corinthians 12:1-11)
There are spiritual gifts given to different people in the church. Although we are many members of Christ’s body, He bestows the best gifts upon each of us. These are the gifts from God unto His people on earth. Jesus had been desirous to give us these gifts, but they were unneeded until He ascended into heaven. This is because the comforter would be the one to fill us and bestow us God’s spiritual giftings. Jesus said this about the power of the Holy Spirit in us. It is written, “and he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:7,8) People who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation are given different giftings of the Spirit. Some people have the gift of healing, prophecy, tongues, and more. We don’t see these gifts spoken of in times past, like in the Old Testament. The giftings of the Spirit were for Christ's church and in the future.
The Holy Ghost was bestowed upon the disciples of Jesus, and then thousands of others, on the day of Pentecost. It was approximately 33 A.D. at that time. However, the Book of Mormon says that we got this wrong. It teaches us that the outpouring of the Holy Spirit happened in the times of the old covenant. This would be around 559 B.C. See for yourself in the following verses in the Book of Mormon. “And also, the voice of the Son came unto me, saying: He that is baptized in my name, to him will the Father give the Holy Ghost, like unto me; wherefore, follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, I know that if ye shall follow the Son, with full purpose of heart, acting no hypocrisy and no deception before God, but with real intent, repenting of your sins, witnessing unto the Father that ye are willing to take upon you the name of Christ, by baptism—yea, by following your Lord and your Savior down into the water, according to his word, behold, then shall ye receive the Holy Ghost; yea, then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost; and then can ye speak with the tongue of angels, and shout praises unto the Holy One of Israel.” (2 Nephi 31:12,13)
With the verses in 2 Nephi, chapter 31, Joseph Smith has removed the importance of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. We see this as the people of Nephi experienced this outpouring of the Holy Spirit 600 years beforehand. It is Satan that loves to take away the importance of different events in the Bible. Jesus promised us that this power would come after He ascended into heaven, not before. “And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:48,49) And this happened just as the Lord said. “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:1-4) In summary, the events in the Book of Mormon were fabricated. Joseph Smith and his friends authored this fictional story. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that many people in the Mormon community will stop reading the Book of Mormon. I pray that they would get rid of it and start reading the Bible instead. Thank You for teaching me that all evil things must be removed from our lives. This includes this fictional and destructive Book of Mormon. It is such a wonderful feeling, just knowing that the things in our old lives are now gone. I am speaking of things that take us away from You, and cause us to believe in false doctrines, and so much more. Lord, You have shown me how evil the Mormon church is in general. I am willing to expose it in order to lead many of them to You for salvation. I am saddened to think that Joseph Smith has led millions of Mormons astray. People have idolized him and trusted in his false teachings instead of having faith in the Bible. God, these people’s hearts are so hard-hearted. If only they knew the destructive path that is ahead of them, things would be different. Wake them up from their slumber. I pray that many of them will resign from their cult and come to You for salvation. I believe in You, Jesus. I love You. Amen.
