Those who are evil, boast in themselves. Often this is seen in the way they dress, speak highly of themselves, and even how they speak of their religion. Some even speak harshly against other churches in Christianity. It is sad when people teach things contrary to the Bible, what is of man and not of God, while causing God’s people to stumble. Therefore, the heritage of the Lord and the truthfulness of His original church is tarnished. David wrote, “how long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? They break in pieces thy people, O Lord, and afflict thine heritage.” (Psalm 94:4,5) God knows our thoughts and knows that they are often full of selfish and prideful ambitions. He chastens these people but only a few respond in favor of Him. Blessed is the person who receives His counsel and walks in favor of His laws. David said, “the Lord knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity. Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of thy law.” (Psalm 94:11,12)
We are not perfect. Often do we slip and fall into sin. A humble person acknowledges these things when this happens, while confessing and forsaking them before God. This way we can receive God’s mercy and forgiveness. The opposite happens with the wicked. They justify their sins and delay the day for their repentance. David wrote, “when I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O Lord, held me up. In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.” (Psalm 94:18,19) I love the Lord and to give Him everything is the least I can do. He is my rock and my firm foundation. I love how David put it also. “But the Lord is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge. And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the Lord our God shall cut them off.” (Psalm 94:22,23) If you love Jesus then live for Him also. Put down your pride and open up fully to Him. This means hearing others in the Christian faith, accepting that you don’t know everything. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray for people who are so prideful and full of themselves. These people are everywhere, even in many different religious systems. It is sad when I meet a person who believes things that are entirely of man and not of the Bible and will not listen when I correct them. Your counsel can go a long way, even to chasten a person who is in the wrong. If people just knew that Your people are also being led by You, then they would take what they say seriously. Instead, we have people in different cults and other religious structures that won’t listen to a Christian if they paid them. Lord, these workers of iniquity don’t realize the judgments that are already upon them lest they repent and get right with You in this life. I am afraid that too many people are destined for hell because of their selfish ambitions and pride. Lord, thank You for taking my hard heart and making it humble. I love to learn from You and other Christians now. Thank You for leading people into my life. I love You, Jesus. Amen.
