Christians believe that we are saved by grace alone, faith alone. This is also taught in the Book of Mormon. “That it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved.” (2 Nephi 10:24) It doesn’t say that we are saved after all we can do, or saved plus our works but by grace alone. This verse is often ignored by Mormons. This is because the verse contradicts another verse in this same book. In regards to this verse it is written, “I am profoundly grateful for the principle of saving grace. Many people think they need only confess that Jesus is the Christ and then they are saved by grace alone. We cannot be saved by grace alone, for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do, 2 Nephi 25:23.” (President James E. Faust, “The Atonement: Our Greatest Hope,” Ensign, Nov. 2001, 18.) They also teach this blasphemy, “We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.” (Tough Topics: Are You Saved by Grace or Works?)
The Bible is clear about how we are saved. Salvation doesn’t come by way of grace plus works but by grace alone, faith alone. Paul taught, “for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10) So what happens to a person that is saved? They are transformed in the likeness of Christ. They no longer live in willful sin but are guided by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, good works from God follow. It is written, “that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9,10) Salvation doesn’t have to be complicated as Mormons make it. Ordinances don’t save anyone, but our faith in Jesus alone does. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that Mormons will start to read the Bible daily and continue to do so without any other books for a year. If they would just do this, then You could teach them what is right and what is wrong. Not only this, but all their false beliefs would be thrown out the window, for they would begin to see why Christians believe the way they do instead of trying to convert them. Mormons are being led astray by false prophets, apostles, teachers, and missionaries. They don’t see a problem with any of their leaders, but if any person comes teaching another gospel, let them be accursed. This was declared in You’re Holy Word, the Bible. God, these people are hard to get through. Because their beliefs are already set, getting them to think differently is almost impossible. But I am not stopping because of this. What I ask of You, Lord, is to lead me to the one in a thousand people who are ready to give up everything to follow You. Lead me to that one person. I believe in You. I trust in You, God. I love You, Jesus. Amen.
