In the times we live in, it is common practice to see people cooking with flour and oil. Many wonderful foods we enjoy are made this way, but did you know that this type of cooking was also common more than four thousand years ago in people’s cooking? It sure was. Even when people did meat offerings unto the Lord, they used such things along with frankincense and more. All this was as an offering to God. It is written, “and when any will offer a meat offering unto the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil upon it, and put frankincense thereon: And he shall bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the Lord: And the remnant of the meat offering shall be Aaron’s and his sons’: it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the Lord made by fire.” (Leviticus 2:1-3)
We’ve learned that flour and oil were used right along with the meat offerings. But did you know that meat offerings could also be baked in an oven? What about cakes made with flour or wafers made with oil? These items of food were either baked in the oven or prepared on a frying pan. It is written, “And if thou bring an oblation of a meat offering baken in the oven, it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil. And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in a pan, it shall be of fine flour unleavened, mingled with oil. Thou shalt part it in pieces, and pour oil thereon: it is a meat offering. And if thy oblation be a meat offering baken in the fryingpan, it shall be made of fine flour with oil.” (Leviticus 2:4-7) So often we think that we have the best types of food in our lifetime, but really these people knew also how to cook in ancient times. I can just imagine how tasty their food once was. It is amazing what God did with His people the Israelites. He is so good. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will guide me in all things I should do in this life. There may no longer be burnt offerings like in times past, but what I can offer You is my life to serve You. Do what You wish in and through me. I am here for You, God. The harvest is ripe but the laborers are few. I know that You have done Your job in leading people to know You through dreams, visions, encounters, billboards, tv, YouTube, and much more. You love us so much and I pray that I can also help make a dent in leading souls to You also. Lead me to people who are ready to hear the gospel, that I might witness to them, help them, pray with them, and simply fellowship them as a friend. I was one of these people who was searching all those many years ago, and I am grateful that You led me to watch certain people’s YouTube content. It really helped me re-think what I believed in. And now I only wish to conform my beliefs to Yours. I love You, Jesus. Cleanse me through Your blood and forgive me of my sins. I trust in You. Amen.
