Since the Ten Commandments were given to Moses, the seventh day has been considered a holy day where we are to rest from all our labors. However, it is often not taught anymore that we are to obey the Sabbath day and keep it holy. Although God’s word is plain and says, “let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.” (Hebrews 4:1-5) Amen, as God rests on the Sabbath, we are to do the same. This is entering into His rest as is written in Hebrews, which is Saturday. I know I need to do a better job of resting on this day and many of you can say the same thing also.
It is also written that “seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief: Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” (Hebrews 4:6-11) Amen. These last verses and the passages I just referenced gives a lot of credence to resting on the Sabbath day. Even still in these last days do we honor God as we rest on His most holy day. This does mean us stopping from doing our own works. I believe this means that we don’t work on this day or even go to places that would cause others to work also. Doing good on the Sabbath day is wonderful and good, but the best part is giving ourselves over to the Lord fully on this day. So begin to rest on the Sabbath.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that I will remember the Sabbath day each week and keep it holy. I know that I have been lacking when it comes to remembering You in that way and I am sorry. Help me to enter Your rest each week. I know that I was born and raised to believe that I needed to rest on Sunday, but today you have put in my heart to rest on Saturday. That this was the Sabbath day since the times of Moses on Mount Sinai when You gave Him the Ten Commandments. Lord, I am grateful for Your Words in the Bible. If I had not read Hebrews, chapter 4, today I may have kept doing my own things on the Sabbath day instead of keeping it holy. This chapter has opened my eyes to my sins and I am so sorry. I only wish to enter into Your rest now. Help me know exactly what You would have me do on that day, while I give up working and going places where people work. I know that You have said that doing good is welcome on that day, so please help me know what things are good in Your sight as I honor the Sabbath. I trust in You. I honor You. I love You, Lord. I give you everything. Amen.
