Esau, the brother of Jacob, once had a birthright from his father but he gave it up for a bowl of stew. He loved the way it tasted and was willing to give everything for just one bite. He despised his birthright and would rather do his own thing in life. We are all made children of God when we follow the Lord. We can either live for God or give up His blessings for selfish reasons. The love of God is given freely. It doesn’t matter who we are, the Lord loves us the same. However, even though the Lord blesses us so much most people forget His love. They lose their sights on Him and are less appreciative of His gifts. Things in life become more important to them than the blessings of God. They’d rather give up the love He’s given them for something new. By doing so they distance themselves from God in order to achieve their lusts. Sin may be more appealing on the surface but it is full of diseases on the inside. The sores it bears attack us from within. We may not know the effects at first but as time goes by it puts its hooks in us. The feelings we get from sin are stimulating. It entices us to follow but doesn’t disclose the side effects. It doesn’t tell you how sick it will make you. It doesn’t tell you how sorrowful it will make you feel. It doesn’t tell you how depressed you will get. It doesn’t tell you how addicted it will make you. Just to try it once is enough to hook you. Satan will continue to put evil thoughts in your mind of how great it once was to keep you coming back. He will keep you doubting yourself and make it seem impossible to escape. These thoughts will only keep you in chains. We must be stronger than the devil. He hasn’t won the battle yet. There still is time for change. Stand up and fight against sin.
When we are tied down in addiction we may not feel up to change. Our hearts are so hooked that we lose all courage to do good. The Lord knows our struggles. He knows the circumstance we are in. The only way our lives will change is if we give way to God. Nobody can free us from bondage but the Lord. He paid the price on the cross that we might be washed clean from all our sins. It is only by accepting His sacrifice for us that we will be free indeed. We must believe in Jesus and give Him our whole heart. We can’t be half in. We must be all in for God. When I overcame my addiction of pornography, nothing I tried helped but prayer to God. As I prayed His spirit came over me and led me to do good. The closer I was to God the more I wanted to live like Him. I read His words in the Bible daily and it made an impression in my life. Each word pricked my heart and brought out my wickedness. I knew that I must give all to follow Jesus to be saved. From that day forward I’ve developed a relationship with my Lord. I can feel Him in my heart. He freed me from my sin and I know that He has power to change your life as well. Give Him your all and his love will cast out all fear. He will wipe away your tears and give you peace. He will give you hope for a better day. You will receive strength to break through. Make a choice today to rediscover the love of God all over again. We may have lost our way but there is always a time for change. His mercy is for all. His grace gives us peace even though we don’t deserve it. Cling to the Lord and you will be eternally blessed. In the eye of the storm He will raise you up. He is our anchor and will never leave us. Thank You Lord for your love. It surely is amazing.
Genesis 25:29-34
29 Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary.
30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.
31 But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”
32 And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”
33 Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.
34 And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
