Jacob’s Ladder

One of those visions in the Old Testament that I will never forget comes from Jacob in Genesis, chapter 28. This is where Jacob has a vision of angels ascending and descending from a ladder that extended towards heaven. Not only did he see this but also the Lord God standing above the ladder. God even spoke to Jacob while standing in the heavens. All this is recorded and is written, “and Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.” (Genesis 28:10-13)) Isn’t this so beautiful?

This is just the beginning of this vision. God said so much more in the following verses. It was the Lord, our God, who spoke unto Jacob and said, “thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” (Genesis 28:14-17) God promised Jacob that He would be with him and his seed, which are the Jewish people wherever they will go. The same can be said for those who are adopted sons and daughters of God. We are blessed, for God is with us also. Amen.

Let us pray:
Lord, come and be among us now. We are here and await Your awesome presence to come and stir us up to know You more. Open up the heavens and give us wisdom. Fill us up and guide us on the path that leads to heaven. I don’t want to be left behind when the rapture comes, but be in Your presence, among the angels and all other believers. If I am not around then, then wake me up to be a part of the first resurrection. Where I will be able to rule with You, oh Lord, during the millennial reign. In my last breath will there be praises to You, Lord, and King. Everyone will know how much I loved You among all else on earth. I worship You, Jesus. When that day comes and I close my eyes for the last time, I pray that I will wake in a state of peace and joy. While in paradise, will I see the angels and You also, my King, like Jacob did in his vision. Thankfully, it won’t have to end, and I will be with You for all eternity in heaven. Where You are, I wish to be also. Lead me to Your heavenly home. I believe in You. I love You, Lord. Amen.
