“And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch: And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died. And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters: And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years: And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” (Genesis 5:18-23)
Jared in the Bible supposedly lived around 3544-2582 BC, which we see in Genesis 5. I am mentioning Jared since you see a brother of Jared in the Book of Mormon. The alleged sibling of Jared is believed to have lived approximately in 2200 BC. The timelines of the brother of Jared and Jared do not align, and there is no mention of another Jared in the Bible during that time. The Book of Mormons tries to identify this fictional character as “Mahonri Moriancumer”. He supposedly came from the time when God confounded the languages during the tower of Babel. The story of that happening is in Genesis 11 and dates around 2300BC. However, there is no evidence for this other Jared or his brother. We only hear about Enoch’s grandfather, who is called Jared. He didn’t make it on the boat and died beforehand. Speaking of the flood, Peter wrote, “which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.” (1 Peter 3:20)
So who went into the ark? It was Noah, and his wife, Shem, Ham, Japheth, and their wives, making a total of eight people as was mentioned. We learn this because “Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.” (Genesis 6:10) Also, when speaking of the ark, it reads the following. “And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.” (Genesis 7:7) Therefore, only Noah’s family and their wives survived. As for this brother of Jared, Mormons swear that he is real. In the Book of Mormon it reads the following about him “And in that day that they shall exercise faith in me, saith the Lord, even as the brother of Jared did, that they may become sanctified in me, then will I manifest unto them the things which the brother of Jared saw, even to the unfolding unto them all my revelations, saith Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of the heavens and of the earth, and all things that in them are.” (Ether 4:7) According to what this person claimed to see and hear, it suggests that he and the mentioned Jesus are not real, but fictional. This is because of the oneness theology that he was taught. Where Jesus is the Father.
In the Book of Mormon, this fictional character, named the brother of Jared, supposedly saw Jesus before His birth. This same false Christ said he and the Father are the same person. This is what we call oneness theology or modalism. They get this thinking from John, chapter 14. This weird belief comes from the following verses. “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” (John 14:10-12) First off, Jesus said that the Father’s Spirit is in Him, not that he is the Father. He even stated that He is going to the Father, making them two persons, not one. Therefore, oneness theology is false, and so is the Godhead doctrine. The truth is, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three persons in one God. This is the trinity. Amen.
