“I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts. I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.” (Psalm 119:99-101)
Throughout our lives, we seek guidance and direction from a variety of sources. We turn to our teachers and mentors in school, and even ancient literature, in a quest for understanding. However, there comes a point when we realize that there is real truth out there. So many people try to find it. Thankfully, millions of people have turned to the God the Bible, for this is where true wisdom is found. His wisdom surpasses what we can obtain from external sources. And with God in our lives, our understanding is greater than those in this world. This isn’t pride speaking, but saying that God’s Words trump what the world teaches. The teachings from God hold an unparalleled depth of wisdom and knowledge that exceeds human instruction. When we delve into God’s Word and make it our constant meditation, we gain insight beyond what traditional education or historical wisdom can provide.
Divine understanding does not operate within the limitations of human knowledge, but transcends it entirely. By keeping God’s precepts close to our hearts and minds, we can gain wisdom that is beyond our earthly comprehension. This is when we also desire to live it out and not just ponder on what we learn. So our faith in God bears good fruit, of which God is leading us in these efforts. We are no longer relying solely on external sources like in the past, for our trust is in Jesus and His Word, the Bible. Our attention is turned to the heavens in order to tap into His infinite wellspring of divine insight. In doing so, we put aside our beliefs that are shaped by human frailties and biases, in order to learn from God. So prioritize your spiritual nourishment over outside sources. Learning from others has its place in our lives, but it is crucial to not neglect wisdom from God through reading His word daily and praying often. Amen.
