King Follett Discourse: Not Always God

Out of the mouth of Jesus, He is Alpha and Omega, the first and the last. Therefore, He has always been God and was not exalted to godhood like some cults like to teach. It is written, “the Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John.” (Revelation 1:1) “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8) However, Joseph Smith went and proclaimed the opposite about Jesus and the Father, not always being God. He said, “in order to understand the subject of the dead, for consolation of those who mourn for the loss of their friends, it is necessary we should understand the character and being of God and how he came to be so; for I am going to tell you how God came to be God. We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see.” (King Follett Discourse) Does this sound Biblical? No.

John also said of Jesus and said, “in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:1-3) Therefore, Jesus has been God since the beginning with the Father. Nothing had to take place for either to be God. And again, Joseph Smith proclaimed the opposite about God, saying he was once a human being like us before becoming God. He wrote, “these are incomprehensible ideas to some, but they are simple. It is the first principle of the Gospel to know for a certainty the Character of God, and to know that we may converse with him as one man converses with another, and that he was once a man like us; yea, that God himself, the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth, the same as Jesus Christ himself did; and I will show it from the Bible.” (King Follett Discourse) So who are you going to believe? Joseph Smith or what the Bible teaches. You have to make a decision about who you will follow. False prophets or Jesus who saves. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray for the sake of the Mormon people. They are so lost while wandering through life blind.  False prophets are among them and they are not even aware of it. I love talking to these people, for I only hope the best for them. Unfortunately, many of these people are so blinded that hearing anything I have to tell them can be impossible at times. It is like they are so confident in what they believe in that when different people present opposing teachings they are quick to debate what they have heard instead of receiving it. I do pray that thousands of these people will receive Your truth and be saved. It will take a lot for this to happen, for they have to give up a life of membership at their church, possible friendships, different callings, and possibly losing their spouse in a divorce. No wonder, God, that these people don’t wish to leave what is comfortable, but continue in it because it feels good. Lord, our feelings get us in trouble all the time. If I was to trust in my gut, then I would be living a life of sin and be far from You. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit leads us in all truth and it convicts me of my sins. Help Mormons also know what is false, so that they may cling to what is right. I love You, Jesus. Amen.
