“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.” (Matthew 1:18) This is the message we preach during the Christmas season. Jesus is the reason why we do anything during this holiday. We remember His glorious birth. This story reads, “then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:19-21) So the purpose of Jesus coming into the world was to save His people from their sins. This includes His adopted people, which are the gentiles. Praise God that we are adopted in.
The story of the birth of Jesus continues and reads, “now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.” (Matthew 1:22-25) Surely, Mary brought forth a son as a virgin. It was a miracle from God. The Holy Spirit came upon her and Jesus became a baby. Praise God. Jesus is God and only He could become flesh, being God, not limited by His powers. Emmanuel, God with us. The people at that time didn’t know how well off they really were to have the Lord in their company. Surely, Jesus was born in Bethlehem two thousand years ago. Because He came into the world I am forgiven. He was raised up on the cross and died for our sins. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray for the souls of people in this world. Many of these people have heard of You, Jesus, but still, You are rejected. This is very sad. I am very happy to have come to know You, Jesus. You have come into my life and set me free. I was lost until You found me. God, I love this time of year. It gives me this whole month to reflect on Your birth. Yes, Jesus, I am in awe that You came down from heaven and became flesh. Only You could pull this off. You chose the most perfect parents to help raise You, with Mary, Joseph, and Your Father in heaven. As a baby and to a man who committed no sin. You were so gracious and kind to people. You healed every person that came to You and did miracles that are beyond our understanding. You are so mysterious, powerful, and Your mighty works have no end. Thank You for finishing Your ministry on earth with us in mind. You willfully died for our sins, while being raised up on a cross. Thank You for Your mercy, Jesus. I love You, Lord. I give You praise. Amen.
