Mother’s Day

Mothers are a gift from God. They can truly influence us to walk in the ways of the Lord, like has happened in my life. I have been blessed with being raised by two mother’s, one being my birth mom and the other, being my step mother. Each one of them sacrificed their own time to raise me right. Because they both love God and have had their sights on Him since I was a child, I was taught to follow in His ways. I am so grateful for their guidance, for my faith in Jesus would not be where it is today if it wasn’t for their good influence in my life. You never realize how the Bible readings that you had with your parents, while you were young, would actually help your own walk with God until you get a little older. If there was something my mothers did well and were an example for me is that they did as Paul said. They did, 3“marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.” Truly they were an example of faith and what a woman should be like when we are married. So as I chose my wife to be, these same qualities I also wanted in that person. This transferred over to my decision in marrying my wife Elizabeth. She, like my mothers is also a wonderful mother and I am pleased to be married to her. She does everything around the house without ever asking for attention upon herself, but because of her grate love for me and our kids. I am so blessed to have such a loving wife and partner in life. God has surely prepared her for me since the beginning.

I give honor and thanks to my mothers and my wife, who is the mother of our two beautiful daughters. I am so grateful to have these women in my life. They have helped me so much in my decision to walk with Christ the Lord. I know the commandment, 1“honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee”, was given to us all for our greater good. It is because of this commandment, that I have remembered them and my love for my wife all my days. God’s Word helps me understand the importance of giving these women the respect they deserve and to show them honor each day of my life. This is not just a commandment for when we are young but for all our days on earth. Now please think about what Solomon said here. 2“Despise not thy mother when she is old.” What saddens me is when I go to nursing homes and assisted living places and to know that so many mothers and fathers are hardly ever seen by their kids. Please know that this is not God’s way. So if and when your mother gets old, do not forget to still love on her as she has loved you since you were born. The same goes for your father. No matter where they live, do frequent visits to their home or residence. If you do this, not only God will be happy with your choices but 2“thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.” Our love for the Lord and our father and mother ought to never dwindle. So continue to love on them as God loves you.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, thank You for my beautiful mothers and wife of our two daughters. I am so blessed to have these women in my life. I cherish every moment I have to be with them and to be in their presence as it is awesome to be in Yours. As I honor You Lord, I also honor my parents and this day give the respect that my mothers and my wife deserves. Because it is Mother’s Day, I give my attention to everything they have done and continue to do for me now. There is so much love and compassion in their hearts and I know that this can only come from You, God. It is so amazing to have knowledge of You and Your sacrifice for mankind on the cross, since I was a child. Those days I had with my parents, while reading the Bible, I will never forget. It was not their faith that was instilled in me but Your Words did the convicting that I needed to follow You, Lord. My wife is also a great example of being selfless and loving to me no matter what. She’s been through a lot, but has never lost hope in me, like You haven’t Lord. I know that You instilled this kind of love in her. And now that my birth mom is in assisted living, I want to be with her more and more. I can’t wait till our next visit. It is always a blessing to be with her and my stepmother. Lastly Lord, how blessed I am to have Elizabeth as my wife and mother of my kids. I love our time together and I know You prepared us to meet since the beginning of time. May we both never lose hope in Your promises Lord and to continue to walk in faith together. Amen.

1Exodus 20:3-17 (KJV)
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.

2Proverbs 23:22-26 (KJV)
22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

31 Timothy 5:9-16 (KJV)
9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man.
10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.
11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.
16 If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.
