Though we may not think that we are rich, if we have enough food each day and a house to live in than we are well off in God’s eyes. Give thanks for your boundless blessings. Pray for others less fortunate. There are many people out there that don’t have these same luxuries. They may have a small home but don’t have enough food for their themselves or their kids. People on the streets are even less fortunate. Most times they are so cold and have little to no food. The Lord knows our hearts and if we, that are blessed with the things we need aren’t giving to the poor and needy, we will one day pay for the life we led. Much like the rich man who saw the beggar at his gate and ignored him, most people see the homeless on the streets and have no regard for their needs. They are like the rich man who “was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day.” Think about the life you are leading. Is it Christian to ignore the needs of others? The Lords greatest commandment is to love Him with all our hearts and our neighbor as our self. To love the Lord means to bear up others burdens. It means to go the extra mile and feed the hungry. What matters in life is the life we live for others. People will remember us for how we loved and encouraged others. How we impacted others’ lives.
To live for ourselves and not others is exactly what the rich man did. Others needs weren’t important and one day he died in his sins. There is a place in heaven for those that love the Lord and serve others. They are blessed beyond anyone can imagine. There is also a place in hell for those that disregard the needs of the poor and afflicted. The rich man described his torment as “send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.” Nobody wants to go through this pain. I also know that Jesus doesn’t want any of us to suffer for He already paid the price for our sins. It is imperative that we live for Christ or His judgments will be upon our heads. Since coming to Christ my desire to love one another has increased. I no longer worry about hell for I am saved by grace. I love to give to others and in doing so my heart has grown so much. I am able to feel the weight of the pains people are feeling when I serve them. My desires are less important for I want to be there for those in need. It brings tears to my eyes when someone is suffering. I pray for all those that are weary. Those that are poor and afflicted. Please Lord, give them rest. Lead me to them that I may lift them up. That I may show them your great love. I love You Lord.
Luke 16:19-31 (KJV)
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house:
For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
