Joseph Smith False Prophecies

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8)

“Verily, thus saith the Lord concerning the wars that will shortly come to pass, beginning at the rebellion of South Carolina, which will eventually terminate in the death and misery of many souls; And the time will come that war will be poured out upon all nations, beginning at this place. For behold, the Southern States shall be divided against the Northern States, and the Southern States will call on other nations, even the nation of Great Britain, as it is called, and they shall also call upon other nations, in order to defend themselves against other nations; and then war shall be poured out upon all nations.” (Doctrines and Covenants 87:1-3)

On December 25, 1832, Joseph Smith claimed to have a revelation from the Lord concerning the Civil War in 1832. The details of this prophecy did not come to pass and is false. It reads, “verily, thus saith the Lord concerning the wars that will shortly come to pass, beginning at the rebellion of South Carolina, which will eventually terminate in the death and misery of many souls; And the time will come that war will be poured out upon all nations, beginning at this place. For behold, the Southern States shall be divided against the Northern States, and the Southern States will call on other nations, even the nation of Great Britain, as it is called, and they shall also call upon other nations, in order to defend themselves against other nations; and then war shall be poured out upon all nations.” (Doctrines and Covenants 87:1-3) This war was between the northern and southern states, as well as certain countries. However, this war was not poured out upon all nations and is a false prophecy. So did this prophecy take place?  No.

"The American Civil War (April 12, 1861 – May 26, 1865; also known by other names) was a civil war in the United States. It was fought between the United States (the Union[f] or "the North") and the Confederacy ("the South")." (American Civil War) "During the American Civil War people from many countries fought for either the Union or Confederacy. They included immigrants from all over Europe including Scandinavia, Germany, France and Hungary. Men from the United Kingdom also fought in the conflict, the vast majority on the Union side." (The Englishmen Who Fought in the American Civil War) Now concerning Joseph Smith and his false prophesy, It is said. "When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him." (Deuteronomy 18:22) This is one of many false prophecies by the mouth of Joseph Smith. This makes him a false prophet. Amen.

“While discussing the petition to Congress, I prophesied by virtue of the holy Priesthood vested in me and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that, if Congress will not hear a petition and grant us protection, they shall be broken up as a government, and God shall damn them. And there shall nothing be left of them, not even a grease spot.”(Millennial Star, Vol. 22, p. 455. See also History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 116)

On December 16th, 1843, Joseph Smith prophesied that congress would be broken up if they do not hear his petition and grant them protection.  You see, many people were upset with this cult, especially because of their polygamist activities.  People were marrying other man's wives, even children at a young age.  Therefore, the people at this time were angry and began to tar and feather a variety of people for their wrongdoings.  They were also being run out of their lands.  This is why Joseph Smith made this false prophecy out of anger. 6, p. 116)  Did congress hear his petition and grant them protection?  No.  Was congress dismantled?  No.  Therefore, the fruits of this false prophet are known by reading the history of this man, called Joseph Smith.  His teachings are not to be trusted.

As you will read in the "Deseret News, Vol. 1, p. 59", Joseph Smith's petition for protection was not heard.  This prediction said that congress would be broken up, where congress is made up of representatives from both parties in the government.  Therefore, we can know for a surety that the saints were making an appeal to US Government in general and not a specific party.  The interesting thing about this false prophecy is that God did not hear Joseph either.  And it was seven months later on June 27, 1844, that Joseph Smith was killed while awaiting trial in the county jail (Carthage).  Jude wrote about false prophets like this.  He said, "for there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." (Jude 1:4)  Notice how he would turn the free grace of God into lasciviousness or lewdness.  Making a mockery of God's gift of grace and adding works that people need to do in order to be saved.  Joseph Smith also taught a different Jesus than what is taught in the Bible.  Therefore, do not trust what the people say in the Mormon church.  It is a cult.  Amen.

"Verily, thus saith the Lord: It is wisdom in my servant David W. Patten, that he settle up all his business as soon as he possibly can, and make a disposition of his merchandise, that he may perform a mission unto me next spring, in company with others, even twelve including himself, to testify of my name and bear glad tidings unto the world. (Doctrine and Covenants 114:1)

On April 11, 1838, Joseph Smith prophesied that David W. Patten would serve a mission in the following spring.  This should happen in 1839.  However, David died five months later in October, 1838.  Thus, he never was able to fulfill Joseph Smith's desires.  Imagine how it made Joseph Smith feel when this man was unable to serve a mission at the time he predicted.  Here is that failed prophecy. (Doctrine and Covenants 114:1)  Testify of who?  Joseph Smith and not Jesus.  Wow.  Speaking of this false prophesy, is it something we should just brush under the rug and say, "he was just a man, we all make mistakes"?   Absolutely not.  However, this is exactly what Mormons will tell you when it comes to their false prophets of the past.  "They made mistakes like all of us.  Therefore, we don't believe in everything they said is scripture".  This is the Mormon excuse.

Isn't it a good thing that Jesus is our authority and not men?  Out of His own mouth, the Lord, our God, warned us about false prophets.  Therefore, we can know what to do when we encounter them or find out about them.   Jesus said, "beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." (Matthew 7:15-20)  It has been written, and God has said that we can know who is a false prophet by their evil fruits.  A prophet of God will not declare false prophesies that do not come to pass.  Therefore, these evil men are cast down into the fire, which is hell, come death.  Don't trust Mormons when they say that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God.   This same man wanted missionaries to speak of Him and not Jesus.  Surely, He is of the devil, for Amen.

“For not many days hence and the earth shall tremble and reel to and fro as a drunken man; and the sun shall hide his face, and shall refuse to give light; and the moon shall be bathed in blood; and the stars shall become exceedingly angry, and shall cast themselves down as a fig that falleth from off a fig tree. And after your testimony cometh wrath and indignation upon the people.” (Doctrine and Covenants 88:87,88)

On December 27 or 28, 1832, Joseph Smith gave a prophecy in regard to the state of the sun, moon, and stars. Even so much to say that the sun will no longer give light, the moon becoming blood red, and stars falling from the skies. Here is that false prophecy. And after your testimony cometh wrath and indignation upon the people.” (Doctrine and Covenants 88:87,88) We are now in 2023 and the sun is still out each day and has not stopped giving light. We’ve had blood moons, but they have not continued for more than a few minutes. As for the stars, they are out as vibrant as always in the clear skies at night. Did Joseph Smith’s prophecy come to pass? No.

The Bible warns us about different types of evil workers/false prophets for a reason. "Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart." (Jeremiah 14:14) What Joseph Smith wrote down was not from God, but a false vision. "Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the Lord." (Jeremiah 23:16) Hearken not unto Joseph or people in Mormonism. "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ." (2 Corinthians 11:13) Examine yourself to know that you are in the faith. This way you won't be led astray by false prophets. Amen.

"I prophecy in the name of the Lord God of Israel, unless the United States redress the wrongs committed upon the Saints in the state of Missouri and punish the crimes committed by her officers that in a few years the government will be utterly overthrown and wasted, and there will not be so much as a potsherd left for their wickedness in permitting the murder of men, women and children, and the wholesale plunder and extermination of thousands of her citizens to go unpunished (History of the Church, Vol. 5, page 394)

On May 17, 1838, Joseph Smith prophesied that the government would be overthrown if they do not undo the wrongs they committed against the Mormon church.  Even so much as to say that there will be nothing left of it.  They were upset that they were chased out of their lands because of their cultish practices.  This is that false prophecy.  Joseph Smith said, "I prophecy in the name of the Lord God of Israel, unless the United States redress the wrongs committed upon the Saints in the state of Missouri and punish the crimes committed by her officers that in a few years the government will be utterly overthrown and wasted, and there will not be so much as a potsherd left for their wickedness in permitting the murder of men, women and children, and the wholesale plunder and extermination of thousands of her citizens to go unpunished (History of the Church, Vol. 5, page 394).  But did this happen?  No.

It has been almost two hundred years and still, the US government is intact.  Surprise, surprise, nothing was retracted when it comes to the Mormon faith.  What the LDS believed was wrong when it came to them in Missouri was never redressed or admitted as wrong.  Therefore, another false prophecy was made by the hand of a false prophet, named Joseph Smith.  Peter warned us about people like this man.  He said, "but there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of." (2 Peter 2:1,2)  Notice how we are warned against false prophets and false teachers who bring in damnable heresies.  These same people deny the true Jesus of the Bible and make up a Jesus to fit their beliefs.  That is why swift destruction is in their paths.  Amen.

“President Smith then stated that the meeting had been called because God had commanded it, and it was made known to him by a vision and by the Holy Spirit. He then gave a relation of some of the circumstances attending us while journeying to Zion–our trials, sufferings; and said God had not designed all this for nothing, but He had it in remembrance yet; and it was the will of God that those who went to Zion, with a determination to lay down their lives, if necessary, should be ordained to the ministry, and go forth to prune the vineyard for the last time, or the coming of the Lord, which was nigh–even fifty-six years should wind up the scene.” (History of the Church, vol. 2, p. 182

On February 1835, Joseph Smith declared that Jesus’s second coming would occur in 1891.  This was 56 years later.  How in Jesus’s return it would wind up the scene for the times of this earth, for the pruning of the vineyard would be over.  It is written, “President Smith then stated that the meeting had been called because God had commanded it, and it was made known to him by a vision and by the Holy Spirit. 2, p. 182 And so we learn that in 1891, Jesus was supposed to return to the earth in His Second Coming.  Did this happen? No.

So did Jesus return in His second coming in 1891?  No.  Jesus has not returned to the earth yet.  So what does this make Joseph Smith?  A false prophet.  It is written in God's Word, the Bible, "but the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him." (Deuteronomy 18:20-22)  So at the age of 29, Joseph Smith made a false prophecy about Jesus's second coming.  And the fact that Joseph Smith died at the age of 38 means that God had enough of him and his false teachings/prophecies.  He died after giving so many false prophecies, for example, the coming of Jesus in 1891. It is evident that God was not with him.

“A revelation of Jesus Christ unto his servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and six elders, as they united their hearts and lifted their voices on high. Yea, the word of the Lord concerning his church, established in the last days for the restoration of his people, as he has spoken by the mouth of his prophets, and for the gathering of his saints to stand upon Mount Zion, which shall be the city of New Jerusalem. Which city shall be built, beginning at the temple lot, which is appointed by the finger of the Lord, in the western boundaries of the State of Missouri, and dedicated by the hand of Joseph Smith, Jun., and others with whom the Lord was well pleased. Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which temple shall be reared in this generation.” (Doctrines and Covenants 84:2-4)

On September 22 or 23, 1832, Joseph Smith prophesied of a temple in Missouri, which would be built in his generation and dedicated by him also. It is written, “A revelation of Jesus Christ unto his servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and six elders, as they united their hearts and lifted their voices on high. Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which temple shall be reared in this generation.” (Doctrines and Covenants 84:2-4) Did this happen? No.

Jesus did not reveal anything about the Missouri temple to Joseph Smith, but Satan. Speaking of a temple in New Jerusalem, there is no temple in its midst according to Revelation. "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." (Revelation 21:2) "And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it." (Revelation 21:22) This is just one of Joseph Smith's false prophecies. Speaking of this false prophet, it is written, "but the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him." (Deuteronomy 18:20-22) Therefore, don't trust Joseph or the Mormon cult. Amen.

"I, the Lord your God, am not displeased with your coming this journey, notwithstanding your follies. I have much treasure in this city for you, for the benefit of Zion, and many people in this city, whom I will gather out in due time for the benefit of Zion, through your instrumentality. Therefore, it is expedient that you should form acquaintance with men in this city, as you shall be led, and as it shall be given you. And it shall come to pass in due time that I will give this city into your hands, that you shall have power over it, insomuch that they shall not discover your secret parts; and its wealth pertaining to gold and silver shall be yours. Concern not yourselves about your debts, for I will give you power to pay them." (Doctrine and Covenants 111:1-5)

On April 6, 1836, Joseph Smith declared that the Lord God gave him a prophecy of the saints in Massachusetts's receiving much wealth in this city. Even so much as saying that God would give this city over to them. To not concern themselves with any debt, for they will have ample amount of money to pay that off once the city is in their hands. This failed prophecy reads, "I, the Lord your God, am not displeased with your coming this journey, notwithstanding your follies. Concern not yourselves about your debts, for I will give you power to pay them." (Doctrine and Covenants 111:1-5) Did any of what we just read actually happen? No.

As you can see from the failed prophecy above, this is from their Doctrine and Covenants, of which the Mormons call scripture. This book is part of their standard works. They study it as God's Word for mankind. However, as you can see, this book is indeed false, as it contains false prophecies. And not only this, but many other false prophecies are in the chapters and pages of this book, all from the mouth of Joseph Smith. The truth of the matter, concerning this failed prophecy, the Mormons church was heavily in debt when Joseph Smith said this. It is too bad, however, that they got no money as Joseph Smith promised them. There was no relief to their financial problems, which caused a lot of stress upon the people and their church at this time. On a side note, no treasure was ever discovered in Salem, nor did this city ever fall into the hands of the Mormons. Now, concerning this false prophecy. God has spoken and said, "when a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him." (Deuteronomy 18:22) This speaks of Joseph Smith's lies, saying God spoke to Him. His teachings are not to be trusted. Amen.

"And now I am prepared to say by the authority of Jesus Christ, that not many years shall pass away before the United States shall present such a scene of bloodshed as has not a parallel in the history of our nation; pestilence, hail, famine, and earthquake will sweep the wicked of this generation from off the face of the land, to open and prepare the way for the return of the lost tribes of Israel from the north country. The people of the Lord, those who have complied with the requirements of the new covenant, have already commenced gathering together to Zion, which is in the state of Missouri; therefore I declare unto you the warning which the Lord has commanded to declare unto this generation, remembering that the eyes of my Maker are upon me, and that to him I am accountable for every word I say, wishing nothing worse to my fellow-men than their eternal salvation. "therefore, "Fear God, and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment is come." Repent ye, repent ye, and embrace the everlasting covenant and flee to Zion, before the overflowing scourge overtake you, for there are those now living upon the earth whose eyes shall not be closed in death until they see all these things, which I have spoken, fulfilled."(History of the Church, Vol. 1, pp. 315-316)

On February 2, 1833, Joseph Smith prophesied the following. The people of the Lord, those who have complied with the requirements of the new covenant, have already commenced gathering together to Zion, which is in the state of Missouri; therefore I declare unto you the warning which the Lord has commanded to declare unto this generation, remembering that the eyes of my Maker are upon me, and that to him I am accountable for every word I say, wishing nothing worse to my fellow-men than their eternal salvation." (History of the Church, Vol. 1, pp. 315-316) Did you know that a generational gap consists of around 25 to 30 years? Therefore, what you just heard was presumed for the timeframe of Joseph Smith and not years after.

Joseph Smith continued and said, "therefore, "Fear God, and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment is come." Repent ye, repent ye, and embrace the everlasting covenant and flee to Zion, before the overflowing scourge overtake you, for there are those now living upon the earth whose eyes shall not be closed in death until they see all these things, which I have spoken, fulfilled." (History of the Church, Vol. 1, pp. 315-316) Notice how Joseph Smith says in his generation this widespread destruction of the wicked would take place. However, this did not take place. Therefore, we have something to say to people who make presumptions like this and says they are of God. Jesus said, "Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." (Matthew 7:22,23) Surely, I would not want to be Joseph come judgment day, for Jesus does not know Him as His servant but a false prophet. He will depart from the Lord's presence and into the lake of fire. Amen.
