Thy Word Is A Lamp Unto My Feet

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments. I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O Lord, according unto thy word.” (Psalm 119:105-107)

I have sang the song many times called, “Thy Word”, but never understood its true meaning. This changed when I put my full trust in Jesus and His Word, the Bible. As I began to read the Bible like a child, my eyes were opened. God showed me things that not only happened in Biblical times but what was happening in my life. You see, God began to speak through those words and help me in my current circumstances as I read. It was like the words began to fly off the pages. This was so amazing, and I could now start to see how God’s Words are a lamp unto my feet. This is because the days I read the Bible, there was more light in my life. My thoughts were focused upon the Lord and not myself. I wanted more of what God wants for me and not what my flesh wanted. This is when I began to do things I didn’t think were possible. You see, my speech wasn’t very good as I once stuttered a lot. The difference being, as I trusted in the Lord, this became less and less. It even got to the point that I started going on the streets in order to tell people about Jesus. In these moments, the Holy Spirit spoke with clarity, which I was not capable of before, and many people came to faith.

As we trust in Jesus, good works come naturally from God. So first comes our time in God’s Word, and then comes praying often. What happens next is a life dedicated to the Lord, where this is where we want to be. It is no longer a struggle to do God’s will, for the Holy Spirit is now leading us. And with this, more and more light is coming into our lives like never before. In the past, we may have not wanted to share our faith, but now we are compelled to. As God is with us, He wants everyone to know about Jesus and be saved. This is why He opens our mouths and people are then convicted of His truth. Here is the truth of God. As we live for the Lord, we know of His righteous judgments and keep them. We desire Him to help us stay upright and not fall into sin. Daily Bible study and praying often help with this. My friends, the Bible is amazing, but know that salvation doesn’t have to be complicated. Our simple faith leads us to Jesus, where He saves us. Our works are the fruits of our saving faith in God. This is when Jesus knows us and we know Him. Therefore, keep seeking Jesus and His light will enter your life. The Bible will then become a lamp unto your feet. Amen.
