Scripture is dependent upon God using prophets as His mouthpiece to His people. The only exception was the apostles of Jesus, who were first-hand witnesses to Him, which allowed their manuscripts to also make it into the Bible. It was during the time of Jesus that the mantle of a prophet was removed and placed solely upon Jesus. in the Old Testament, God led His people through prophets. However, the moment Jesus came to earth and ascended up into heaven He began to lead His people. First in person and later by way of the comforter or the Holy Spirit. Even John became the last mouthpiece for God. He prepared people for the coming of Jesus. Jesus said, “the law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.” (Luke 16:16) There is no more need for the laws of Moses or the looking to a prophet for answers, for Jesus is among us now through the Holy Spirit. This means that a prophet who leads a church is not of God, like we see in Mormonism and other cults.
Now to the importance of Sola Scriptura. We already learned that scriptures have come about by way of God leading His people through prophets, and lastly through eyewitnesses of Jesus on earth. These times have ended and that is why the Biblical canon was made for God’s true believers to read and learn from. It is the Holy Spirit that teaches us what God’s Word says. Paul wrote, “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.” (Hebrews 1:1,2) Jesus also said that He will lead His church through the Holy Spirit. “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) Therefore, there is no need for prophets leading Christ’s church, but Jesus, through the Holy Spirit. And that is why we only use the Bible. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will no longer try to find fault with what the Bible says. If they would simply open up the pages and read it as a child, then You would be able to show them heavenly things. I have talked with a lot of people when it comes to street evangelism and social media outreach through Facebook. Many people have been receptive to what is written in Your word, while one religious group has been against what I’ve written for You since the beginning. Because the Mormon people believe in and teach that the Bible is corrupted, this has led to them also having one of the hardest hearts I have ever seen. Now, looking back at myself while I was in that cult, it is a miracle that You took me out of it. All I can say is “thank You, Lord”. I am in such a better place now. I didn’t realize I was missing out on the presence of the Holy Spirit until I found You outside the confines of that religion. For this reason, all I desire is to teach Your truths, to lead people to You, and to give You praise. Wherever I am, I will glorify Your Name, Jesus. I love You, Lord. Amen.
