Of a surety, those who rebel or fight against God will one day be consumed in God’s wrath while in this life or the next. This can be in a major car accident, cancer, heart attack, stroke, aneurism, or more. The same people could also die in an earthquake, flood, or tornado. The Lord knows who is for Him and who is against Him. He also knows who will repent of their sins and get right with Him and who will not. The same can be said with the men of Korah who didn’t trust in Moses and instead fought against Him and God’s best wishes for the people. For this reason, God’s wrath fell upon them and the ground beneath them swallowed them up. It is written, “if these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the Lord hath not sent me. But if the Lord make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the Lord. And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them.” (Number 16:29-31)
Just imagine a great earthquake taking place and seeing people being swallowed up in the earth beneath them. You can say that them losing their lives was by chance, but God knows if it was their time because of something or another they had done. In this story, the people who were spared could hear the cries of the people who fell into the earth beneath them. It must have been terrifying to witness. It is written, “and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.” (Numbers 16:32-34) God did cause the earth to open up and then close after the people were consumed thein. This is what you will call swift destruction for the wicked. I’ve heard this story many times and each time it affects me. There is a reason I live for God daily. Not only is He my King, but I would not want His wrath to fall upon me also. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that You will keep me in safe pastures. Don’t allow the evil people in this world to cause me to fall. Surely, along with people who work wickedness in this life, there are many wolves in sheep’s clothing also. You have made them know unto me at times and trying to speak Your truth to them is very difficult. Sometimes I wonder if many of them will ever turn from their false beliefs and come to Your feet, Jesus, in their confessions. To the people I no longer talk to, You have let me know when my time with them is no longer needed. Others, I just don’t know yet. Can a wolf be fully transformed into a sheep? I would like to think this is possible What needs to happen for this transformation to occur? I do not have all the right answers. My words are not enough to help a person turn to You and relinquish their false beliefs and sins. For this reason, I rely on the Holy Spirit. Help me, Lord. Consume me with the fire of the Holy Spirit. May Your light in me never go dim. This life is hard, but You make it worth it. My flesh is weak, but You make me strong to resist temptation. Only You can make me whole. I believe in You, Jesus. I love You, Lord. Amen.
