The Bible is clear that those who have faith in Jesus and are led by the Spirit, are called the sons of God. Just because we are God’s best creation it doesn’t mean that He automatically calls us His children. This is seen all throughout the New Testament of the Bible. One such place reads, “for if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” (Romans 8:13-17) As we just read, becoming a child of God through faith and the Holy Spirit cannot be made clear by the verses we just read. Again, it reads, “as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God”. (Romans 8:14) This cannot be any more clear. Praise God that we are children of God through faith in Jesus.
When we become a son or daughter of the Father, we are adopted in as God’s people. We know that our God is the God of Israel and we have faith in Jesus and do as He says through the Holy Spirit, we are adopted in as His children also. Just as Paul said, this is because we are willing to suffer with Christ if we were ever put in that predicament of persecuted. This shows our real faith in Jesus, for it is sustainable. Now, when it comes to Mormonism, they will deny these verses and say that every person is a child of God. They also believe that being glorified means that they will also become gods as Christ is. They get this false belief from the verse above, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” (Romans 8:17) But what could being gloried mean if it doesn’t mean becoming a god? I am glad you asked. It means that we will obtain a glorified resurrected body that will never die again. These bodies will shine forth as Christ’s does. You can think of this as being like unto angels as Jesus said, but not angels per say. All the glory to God who makes this happen. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, thank You for saving me and other Christians all throughout the world. Each one of us has done things we wish we haven’t and still You took us in as if nothing had ever happened. The moment You heard our confessions and our desires to no longer sin in the same way, You had compassion upon our souls. Your mercy is for us and I pray that more people will experience it in their lifetime. I am so grateful for Your forgiveness and for removing different sinful urges from the flesh that I once had before submitting my life to You. I may not be perfect in any fashion of the word, but still, I am strengthened daily through Your constant presence in my life. Truly, You are my Father now and I am Your son. It may have been a long road to get here, but it was worth it to be adopted in as Your child. It is my prayer that You will help people know and understand that we are not automatically called Your children, but only those who have true faith in You, Jesus. I say true, for there are many people who say they are saved, but don’t live their lives for You. They said a prayer when they were younger for salvation and are counting on that. Open their eyes, God. Help people to actually live for You if they say they believe in You, also. I love You, Lord. I trust in You, God. Amen.
