When We Turn Down Spiritual Gifts From God

Often times we doubt the giftings of the Spirit that God wants to give to us. For example, we may be prompted to be a teacher, an elder, or a pastor in a church. God may also call you to be a street evangelist. God knows who would be the best fit for these roles in his church and therefore calls them accordingly. However, many people don’t do what God asks of them because they think the way they talk would be good enough. Some may even have a stutter and think that they would never be good at it. Moses even felt this way about his speech. This is his response to God, “and Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. And the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt send.” (Exodus 4:10-13) How do you think God reacted because of Moses doubting Him? If you said God was mad at Moses, you would be right.

Moses was supposed to be God’s spokesperson but he denied this opportunity from the Lord. How many of you have done the same thing as Moses? Now, let’s see how God reacted to him. It is written, “and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he said, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do. And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.” (Exodus 4:14-16) In God’s anger did he send someone who would be more willing to serve Him than even Moses at the time. As for me, I will also although in the flesh I didn’t think I would be a street evangelist having a stuttering impediment since my childhood. However, I did not give in to the devil and God has given me words to speak, even with clarity since then. God does not want to go to someone else to do what He expects of us. This is the truth of God. Amen.

Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will stop denying their chance to do Your will on earth. We are Your hands and feet. However, many people deny their opportunity to serve You because of different reasons. They may think they are inadequate in their speech or have other excuses for not jumping into the calling that You have for their lives. Do they not realize that You created us? How in the same way You created us, You can shape us into the person You desire also. As for me, I’ve had a speech impediment most of my life, but that was not stopping me from telling people about You, Jesus. The moment I was baptized I wanted to tell everyone about You. I found many occasions to knock on doors and to street evangelize, and I did not have to worry about my speech impediment. You were the one giving me the words to speak and I was able to proclaim the good news of the gospel with clarity. I am still able to do this to this day and I give You all the glory. I am so happy I didn’t doubt Your calling to be an evangelist, for I could have easily done this. Lord, You mean more to me than anything else. Therefore, I will live and die for You. I love You. Lead me now and forever. Amen.
