Halloween is around the corner, just like every year. But should people join in on the festivities? A little scare and some fun with candy is no harm, people say. These can be haunted houses or mazes, where people jump out at people in their scary costumes at night. How about going to parties, where beer and alcohol are served to people? At these parties, people are dressed up as witches, the devil, skeletons, zombies, ghosts, evil clowns, and even scantily-clad playboy-like outfits. People justify these costumes and others while thinking it does them and others no harm. Some of these people would even tell you that they are Christians and even true followers of Jesus. However, can this really be true? Not at all. “Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.” (1 Corinthians 10:21) People cannot justify even one day out of the year where they are decorating their houses and carving jack-o-lanterns on Halloween. They are not at the Lord’s table on this day if they are participating with their kids or on their own on Halloween. Therefore, “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” (Ephesians 5:11) This means not participating in a holiday that is dark in any way, but tell others about it, that they may not participate in its evil deeds either.
We are exhorted by God to “neither give place to the devil.” (Ephesians 4:27) We cannot justify being partakers of the things on Halloween even for one day out of the year. Therefore, we are exhorted to “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) This means keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus and doing His will instead. When we start letting our flesh do things that are contrary to God, we start to justify more and more evil things that take place in our lives like Halloween. This is when the devil takes hold of us like a roaring lion. You have heard how important it is to “abstain from all appearance of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:22) So start doing this today. Lastly, God’s Word says, “woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” (Isaiah 5:20,21) Therefore, allow the Lord to lead you from what is evil, that you may begin to walk in His light and do what is good. He is the only person who can help you become wise through His wisdom and not your own. God does not wish anyone to participate in such an evil and devilish holiday like Halloween. So do not participate in the festivities on this evil day. Do this for Jesus! Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that we will not give in to doing anything that is contrary to Your will. This includes not participating in evil things during Halloween. It is said that people have made what is devilish on this day appear to be good, which is so wrong. I cannot even fathom how Christians can justify taking their kids out trick-or-treating on this wicked day. And God, people go even further by decorating their houses, carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, going to parties, haunted houses, spooky mazes, and much more. They even dress up in the scariest costumes and perverse costumes, which is disturbing. But what really disturbs me is when specific churches celebrate this day as a harvest celebration, a trunk-or-treat in their church parking lot, and even make the interior of their churches as a haunted house. This is so sickening, and I pray that people will repent of these wicked and evil actions that they have done on this day. It is my prayer that You will shed light on the evils of this day to every person who believes in You. Then, will people stop allowing themselves and their children to be part of it any longer. Break every stronghold of the enemy in people’s lives. I cancel the devil’s schemes in the Name of Jesus. Set your people free from every wicked deed, especially the abominable things that take place on Halloween. I believe in You, Lord. I trust in You. I love You, Jesus. Amen.
