Wouldn’t it be awesome to know that when you die and go to heaven, that people on earth are saddened because of your loss? That people regarded you in high esteem because of what you did and accomplished? This is wonderful and all, but it would be that much better if people knew your heart for God and talked about it instead. This would be better since your faith in Christ also begat many seeds of faith in others around you. My friends, if people are making for themselves treasures in heaven, instead of on earth, this is praiseworthy. For the things of the world were not lifted up in their lives, but God’s will instead. His blessings did they seek and not the blessings of this world. So people all around them could notice that this person was different. That their love for others was like something else, for they were generous and kind. They would listen and respond to people in a respectful way. They spoke of Jesus and also lived for Him in the same manner. They were not hypocrites in the faith and everybody knew this. So when a person like this passes on from death and unto life with Christ, it is with sadness that this great brother or sister has to leave us behind. We are happy that they chose the better part in life, which was Christ. That they shared the gospel with the fire of the Holy Spirit. There was no doubting that God was not with them. So again, they prepared their life to meet God and endured in the faith until the end. A person like this Jesus knows personally, as well as their neighbors, because of His love in them. Therefore, in death, they are welcomed home to be with their Lord and Father in heaven. What a glorious day this will be for a person such as this.
In regards to our place in heaven, this is what all Christians should be looking forward to the most. And for those that believe in Jesus and walk out their faith in Him, He has told us what it will be like, which is awesome. He said, 3“let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.” (John 14:1-4) He also said, 2“lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21) What Jesus said is very important. Those that believe in Jesus and are therefore laying up treasures in heaven instead of on earth have nothing to fear. These people have mansions that God has prepared for them. The same can be said for King Jotham, who it says that 1“he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord.” (2 Chronicles 27:2) And what sets him apart from others is that this continued till his death. At the end of his life, before his last breath, his last remarks were, 1“so Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.” (2 Chronicles 27:6) This is great news for the kingdom. The same can be said for every person that lived and died unto the Lord. These are those that are now in heaven with Jesus.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will begin to set their sights on heaven. That they will stop worrying about everything the world has to offer them, but what you can do for us. This change in mindset will help people lay up their treasures in heaven and no longer be focused on treasures on earth. Surely, what You offer us is the real deal, where what the world can give us doesn’t matter in the real scheme of things. What matters is what You can do for our lives spiritually and not what the world can do for us in the flesh. Lord, we need Your light to penetrate our souls, so that we may lift our hearts up to You in praise and not other things. Too many other things in life have people’s attention, which leads them to not find time for You in their day, which is very sad. So come Lord. Even more so in my life and every believer’s life also. I want more of You and less of me. If there is anything that is taking me away from following You completely, take it away now. These things don’t matter if they are a substitute for my devotion to you in prayer, in Your word, and in Your kingdom. Nothing should separate me from what I can do for You, and this should be the same for every true believer also. So God, prick our hearts to become devoted to what is important in life, and that is Your kingdom and not the world. Lead us on the path of righteousness and set our hearts on things that are pure and holy. Your ways are what brings me great joy and happiness in this life. Nothing else can fulfill my joy like You can. Lord, I love You so much. I can’t wait for the day that I can be with You in heaven forever. I pray that my place is being prepared in heaven right now. My desire is to live this life for You, then die honorably in Your presence. This I pray, in Your mighty Name, Jesus. Amen.
