When the Lord says it is time to do something, then listen and obey Him. The same can be said for the times that we are wronged and the Lord God tells us to show that person mercy and love. This may be hard to do, but we are to anyways forgive and show mercy unto those people that have hurt us. Therefore, we listen and do as He says. He knows better for our lives, more than we do. We may not be able to forgive others on our own, but God calls, He makes all things possible to those that trust in Him. Even when it feels like there is a war raging inside of you against that person, God knows best. It is better to just listen and obey, then to continue in your anger. There may be walls built up now in your life, but all this needs to go when the Lord says so. And here is why… Jesus said, 3“for if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14,15) It is taught by our Lord and Savior that we will only be forgiven by the Father, if we forgive our neighbor also. There can be no expecting to be washed by the blood of Jesus and have His mercy poured out upon us if there is still unforgiveness in our hearts towards others. So please let this sink in, for God takes forgiveness very seriously. We cannot keep things over the heads of people that God has already forgiven, just because we are selfish in our own desires. And not all people have come to God for what they have done, but still, as believers in Christ, we forgive them freely.
It is important that we learn to forgive as God forgives us. And in doing this, we will learn to love as God loves us, for this is doing as Jesus taught us. He said, 2“ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:43-45) Now, this may seem impossible to do, however, it is what Jesus expects out of every believer in Him. Loving those people that have hurt us shows our forgiveness towards them. Even that same person that hurt us can now understand what true love is really like. David knew this when He still showed his love towards Saul after all He had done to Him, even after he tried to take His life away. It is recorded that when 1“when David had made an end of speaking these words unto Saul, that Saul said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept. And he said to David, Thou art more righteous than I: for thou hast rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded thee evil.” (1 Samuel 24:16,17) And so love won out when it seemed impossible. The same is also with showing love and forgiveness to others with God in our lives. He is the restorer of forgiveness and mercy to those that believe in Him. Keep seeking the Lord and do as He says. Then will His love shine bright.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I love You and only want to do as You would have me live this life. Even when people have hurt me over these many years, all I desire is that they receive my forgiveness, as You have forgiven me. Surely, how can I receive Your forgiveness freely, when I cannot forgive others? I would be a hypocrite of wanting something that I am unwilling to do myself. So cast out all anger, evil intentions, and resentment from every person’s heart that are having a hard time forgiving there neighbor now. I ask this especially for those that call themselves Christians. These are the people who desire forgiveness from You and need to learn how to forgive others now, and not later. So come into their lives, as You have come into mine, and break down every wall that is up. Help these people see the good in all people, including those that have hurt them, while showing love to their enemies. Surely, it is so good to have Your mercy and compassion fall down upon me when I have wronged You. Therefore, all I wish is that people would receive the forgiveness and mercy that I have towards them. There are no more hard feelings towards anyone who has done me unjustly in this life, but only love as You love them, oh Lord. Thank You for teaching me this lesson on forgiveness and mercy. I am so grateful to be on the receiving grounds of Your mercy in my life. And because of my faith in You, God, who saves, I am moved to forgive and love as you do. It is a pleasure to love You and my neighbor as myself. Amen.
