“See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians 5:15-19)
Let this be a wakeup call to every person who watches TV and/or plays video games on a daily basis. The truth of the matter is that the TV set is causing people to forget God. You are telling Him that He doesn’t matter when you choose to tune into the next episode on Netflix or play that shoot-em-up game on Xbox. In doing so, how do you think watching this type of TV and even horror movies is God approved? Are games like Call of Duty, leading you closer to God? Do you really think He is ok with any of this? So God is now put on hold. You’ve made your TV set, and even your phone, your idol, and God knows this. Time with Him through Bible study is forgotten, while prayer is left only for praying over food. There goes ministry opportunities during the week, including street evangelism. There goes getting out and doing something productive with the family instead of being cooped up in the house. This leads to laziness and obesity with a loss of desire to serve God, but to do what the flesh wants instead. The sad thing is, Sunday Christians often fall into this camp. It is because the TV set is never spoken against in a church setting. Today is that day.
So what does this do to a person? For one, it kills off our relationship with God. If we knew God in the past, these willful sins of the flesh have now taken us far away from the Lord’s presence. Indulging in TV entertainment for long periods of time causes us to develop addictions to many different things like video games, pornography, alcohol, and more. If only people could see the downfalls of living this way when life is short. The judgment from God is around the corner. There are consequences of prioritizing entertainment over Him. When we constantly indulge in mindless distractions, we inadvertently push our relationship with the Lord to the back burner. People in our lives also suffer. The truth is, God desires an intimate relationship with us. He longs for us to seek His hand for guidance. Neglecting Bible study and prayer prevents spiritual growth and hinders our understanding of God’s Word. We become disconnected from His voice and fail to grasp His plans for our lives. If this is you, you have fallen away from God. Today is that day to return to Him. Turn off your TV sets and come and follow Jesus today! Time is ticking. Don’t waste it away. Amen.
