After the angel Gabriel spoke unto Mary, she said something very important. “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.” (Luke 1:38) This showed her true desire to serve God and allow Him to do a mighty work through her. If only we all could tell God, “be it unto me according to Your word”. Then could God accomplish much more for His kingdom, and many more souls would be saved also. It was after Mary saw an angel that she visited her cousin Elizabeth. This is where we learn about Elizabeth’s great faith and how she was filled with the Holy Spirit. Even her baby knew that Mary was entering and leaped in her womb. It is written, “And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda; And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth. And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost.” (Luke 1:39-41) Notice that unborn babies are aware of their surroundings, They are innocent. Remember this.
Elizabeth acknowledged that Mary is blessed among women, just as the angel Gabriel told her would happen. For the last two thousand years, people have not stopped acknowledging Mary and how blessed she was to give birth to Jesus, our Savior, although some have taken this too far. This story continues and reads, “and she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.” (Luke 1:42-45) Mary did believe in God more than most people do. Because of this, everything that he angel said about Jesus was fulfilled in and through her faithfulness to raising Him right. My friends, Jesus did come those two thousand years ago. God came down and became flesh. He lived a perfect and sinless life, died for our sins on the cross, and then rose from the grave. He did all this because He loves us. Amen.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will keep You in their remembrance. I am talking about people in all the world that are in the faith. May we learn to listen to You. You are not as distant that people make You out to be. Even now, Your Spirit is so close and I am at peace. Thankfully, this life is short, so that I can be with You in person in heaven. I love many things this life offers, but when Your presence is in my life, I am fulfilled. Even now I am meditating upon Your Words in Luke, chapter 1, in the Bible, and I am so happy. Thank You for opening my mind to the events that took place before Your birth, Jesus. Mary is blessed among women. She was so obedient as to obey the words of the angel Gabriel and not doubt. If we could all have such faith Your light would be shining brightly in this darkened world. Lord, light up my life. I know that there are bits of darkness that can still be expelled from it. Lead me from temptation. Have mercy upon me. God, come and take me where I am today and make me who You know I should be. Do unto me according to Your word. Lead me, guide me, walk beside me. Abide with me, Lord. I love You. Amen.
