What matters in this life is what we are doing now, not what we once did in the past. And to make this even more relevant, God also cares about what you are doing now in His kingdom. What is being done now always trumps what was done in the past in God’s eyes, especially if we are now in sin. Now, people may say that they went on many mission trips in the past, did street evangelism, led Bible studies, served in different church callings, prayed for many people, performed many miracles, fed the homeless, and even volunteered to serve food at homeless shelters. This is all good and all, but what are you doing now? And people may also say, but I’ve read the Bible before many times. And again I would ask him or her, what are you doing now for God? We cannot justify our previous good deeds with evil deeds we are performing now. And I say evil because if your heart is not into serving God, then it is serving other things instead. “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21) Something in your heart is driving you to do things you once thought were bad if you are not living for God now. And if you are no longer seeking God the way you once did, then you must be seeking other things that are taking up more of your time than God. This would only mean that you have allowed Satan to enter your life, which is a terrible thing to do. This means that temptation is winning out, where God’s strength is becoming less and less important. We can resist the fiery darts of the enemy, but people must allow the Lord to come back into their lives first.
When it comes to what we are doing now? Some of you may very well be looking at pornography? Even some may be having sex outside of marriage? Anyone having an adulterous affair? Have You delved into homosexuality? Do some of you drink alcohol and get drunk? Even drugs are making you less sober-minded. What about your TV? Are you allowing it to consume your time, while allowing in the bad content in your life? What about gaming consoles and PC games? Are these games also taking away your time, while making God void in your life? And to think of all the terrible things that people are doing in these games is revolting. God would not be happy with most of it. Even the things that people are doing on their phones and the amount of time spent on it is not right. Now, pause for a minute and think what you would do if you were doing any of those things and Jesus returned in the same hour. Oh, the shame and guilt that would build up in your heart. They would be found a hypocrite to things they were once against. And unfortunately, since Jesus has returned there is no more forgiveness for sins. They had time to repent but procrastinated that day. What a sad day this would be for anyone who thought they were saved, but then lost it because of willful sins. So please think about what Jesus said when he spoke, “blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.” (Matthew 24:46) My friends, Jesus is coming. We don’t know when that will come, but we live each day to found worthy and to be called His sons and daughters.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that we will remember how important it is to be doing Your will now, not just in the past. How things done in the past are wonderful if You were involved, but that these thoughts should not make us think that our part is done in Your kingdom. For the time we think this way is when we will start to find time for other things. These things could be worldly in nature and even sinful at that. Lord, anything that is taking people’s time away from You needs to stop. I just don’t understand how people can be living for You one day and not the next. How can people allow themselves to go the way of the prodigal and start justifying their actions also. There will be a day and a time set forth for people who gave up their first love for things of this world. How their fleshly desires become more important to them than You. But this does not have to be the case for people. There is still time to repent and You are still gracious to forgive people who have fallen into sin. Our destination is not set in stone until either Your return or when we die and I pray that in either moment we will be found doing Your will. As for me, I will live my life for You. May there be less of me and more of You. May Your ways become my ways also. I love You, Lord. You are my God and I worship You. Amen.
