In times of war and pestilences upon the earth, we are to not lose hope, even during the coronavirus outbreak. There is still safety and security to be had from all the trials of this life, and that comes through Jesus Christ, our Lord. If you put your trust in Him, He will become your deliverer also, even your fortress and strong tower. You will not fall by the enemy, but find safety with God. Jehoshaphat knew this when he saw 1“the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.” (2 Chronicles 20:1) However, as the people’s hearts began to sink because of fear, what did he do? The answer is that he prayed and caused the people to fast with him. Now, this is faith on full display. It is recorded that, 1“Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the Lord: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the Lord. And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court, and said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee? Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?” (2 Chronicles 20:3-7) This was just the beginning of this amazing and heartfelt prayer. Praise God that he stood in faith among the people, while praying to the God who saves
In prayer, Jehoshaphat, continued to say, 1“If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.” (2 Chronicles 20:9) After the prayer ended, Jehoshaphat was very encouraged, for he knew that God was going to step in and help them. Speaking of the battle that was raging against them, he knew that God would take charge and destroy the enemy. So, he said the following to the people at large, after the prayer was done. 1“Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you. And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the Lord, worshipping the Lord. And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a loud voice on high. And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth for ever.” (2 Chronicles 20:17-21)
What faith Jehoshaphat and the people had, to go forth to battle while singing praises to God in their instruments and songs? Surely, they were not alone but had the presence of the living God with them. God is always ready to go forth with us, even in every battle we face. He is so merciful and just, even to those that believe in His Name. In speaking of what they did, it is recorded that 1“when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten. For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.” (2 Chronicles 20:22-24) So God went before His people and caused the wicked to war against each other until they were destroyed. Wow, this is God’s handiwork on full display. So 1“they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the Lord. And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the Lord fought against the enemies of Israel.” (2 Chronicles 20:28,29) Isn’t this amazing? I pray that you also will seek the Lord daily and allow Him to fight your battles. Then, when He does, lift Him up in praise. Sing songs of thanksgiving, for His mercy endures forever. God’s peace, love, joy, and even salvation are for those that believe and trust in Him.
Let us pray:
Oh Lord, I pray that people will not allow themselves to fight their battles on their own. Surely, there is safety and security found in You, when we stop and trust in You. Besides that, we are defenseless when the enemy strikes. And Lord, though times are very difficult right now with the coronavirus, there is safety found in You. We know that You will pull us through this difficult time. Even people that have lost their jobs because of this virus outbreak, I pray that these people will be at peace and know that You have heard their prayers. That after this all boils over, that people who trust in Your Name, will find greater joy than before. Surely, joy comes in the morning to those that believe in and put their trust in You for salvation. Even when it seems like there is no way out of the hardships that we are in, You are able to pull us through and make things even better than before. We may not be wealthy but are filled up by Your blessings that fall down upon us from heaven. I believe in You, Jesus, and will not let the government cause me to be in fear in these times of uncertainty. Even when they proclaim a stay at home order, I will not stand down, but continue to go forth and witness Your gospel truths, on the streets, and in all the world. Many people are on the path of destruction and this is a great time to tell people that there is power in Your name to save them from their sins. Surely, people can either sit around or get up and do something for Your cause. We are Your hands and feet on this earth, and I will not let You down. I love You more than this life. People can say bad things about me, and even hurt me, but the gospel will continue to be shared. I love You, Lord. I give You praise and great glory. Amen.
